I want to change my porch railing and am looking for ideas. What kind of flowers do you have on the porch railing? Do you change flowers every few years? Has anyone tried the Saddle Planters? They are self mounted planters that sit on the deck railing and won't blow away or fall off. No fasteners or tools required. They are available in 5 colors, but seem costly to me at $24.95 for one.

Hi there Fishmomma! I am not in charge of the flowers in our porch railing. My mother is. We currently have magic rose on them.

I hung some window boxes off my railing on my balconey (I live in a larger urban building). We put flowers in some and herbs in others. For flowers we used pansies and johnny-jump-ups (at least that is what I think they are called) and so far for herbs we have rosemary and cilantro. The window boxes were very affordable (under $10) and they were pretty easy to install. They really dress up the balconey nicely.

I had to look up saddle planters to see what you meant. They sure look easy - just hang them up and there they are! I think the price is a little steep - I'd get jusdt one to try if I were you. I usually have big terra cotta pots I put on the porch. I put something different in every year. One year I'll put a different variety in each pot. Another year I'll try doing an arrangement in each pot. For the full sun, I like petunias and geraniums, but not together.

I'm thinking about getting just one in green my favorite color. It would be a birthday gift, then I'll get my husband to pay for it. May is just around the corner and it certainly will be a gift that doesn't means calories that I don't need. I can't put pots on the railing, as a couple years ago an earthquake caused all of them to fall off and break. We had an earthquake last night, but it didn't cause any damage. It just made me a little nervous for a moment. Thanks for the reply.

It is better to place the Yellow Magic Rose in these type of porch railing material and placing this yellow magic rose the porch railing should not have more gaps on it. Source:-
