Lawmakers who give themselves pay raises.

What do you think about lawmakers who vote themselves a pay raise? Wouldn't that be nice if the average person could do that for themselves? Our city council just voted to give themselves a pay raise even though the city is financially strapped and is laying off more and more people every year. In my department, we are so short on people and the rules about working extra hours are really strict, so people are having to go without help. Our mayor has threatened to veto the pay raise, but he can be overridden by the council.

Don't you just love how they do that? I think that the mayor of your city should veto it. And for the sake of the people of working in the goverment of your city, I hope that he does it and they don't over ride him otherwise that could lead to more then just financial problems for your city.

Thanks. I just read the budget and found out that half of my current classification is due to be cut. And, that's about all of the cuts for my department--in my position. I think if they don't give themselves a pay raise, they could afford to keep a few of us.
