the giant pharamaceutical company Merck, knew that their medication Vioxx had major side affects including death in diabetic patients as early as 2001 yet they covered it up and the product was only taken off the market in 2004. I think this is totally disgusting, again money over safety, they get rich on the deaths of innocent people. Now there is a major lawsuit going on about it according to the news this evening. What do you think can be done to protect our lives? Is suing merck enough, they certainly have the money what else can be done?

This is not the first time that Merck has hit the news about some of the medications they have put out there and the problems they have caused. They are also the makers of the new vaccine that is to help stop some forms of cervical cancer. They put out a lot of medication and from what I've seen more then willing to sweep things under the rug if they don't like the results. They do the very minimal to see what the medications do and push to get them approved before they should. The FDA should also be held responsible since they have approved the medication. They need to stop rushing to get the medications out there. Now I can understand for medications that are geared for those who are terminal to perhaps not be as stringent in the guidelines but for everything else we need to hold these companies to a higher standard. They are playing God in some cases and not caring who gets hurt so long as they get their money. That is not right and shouldn't be allowed. Personally I think they should be charged and held criminally responsible in the deaths. They knew and didn't care nor did they warn anyone until it was too late. They covered it up and in my opinion that makes them guilty. Charge them and let them go to jail, maybe then they won't be so gung ho to risk other people's lives.

"Mom" this really scares me because I was on Vioxx for my back pain for about 5 years before it was taken off the market. So I wonder now if the health problems I have had since being on it can be related to that medication. My doctor says not to worry, but I mean do they really know ? how can the doctor be sure that the problems I have now are not due to that ? I was perfectly healthy before I started taking the Vioxx, with the exception of the back pain. but now I even wonder if it has anything to do with why I find it hard to get pregnant or even stay pregnant when I do.

I don't think that suing Merck is going to be the total answer to the problem. Those types of companies need to be put out of commission. I know that they did try to help people by making it easier for them to get medication but it is not worth risking our lives for.

That is terrible..They should face the consequences.Everyone should know, research all medications we are taking to ensure our own safety.Ask our doctors too.

I think it's disgusting that everything has to be about making money. Not only do they push out unsafe products for revenue they also suppress the knowledge of , or outlaw the use of more natural medications. I don't really know what can be done about them they are so intertwined with the governments now it would be very hard to work within the system to rectify the situation. Personally I am against using pharmaceuticals albeit, I do see some imprtance to them.
