Some of my aunts traced our geneology back and found
out that Francis Scott Key, who wrote our national
anthem, is my 8th great grandfather. My sons count this as their claim to fame. They have told all their friends and teachers and have done research papers and book reports on Francis Scott Key. Do you know of any historical or famous people in your own geneology? I think this a very interesting pursuit, to trace geneologies back and find out where they lead.

I come from Adam and Eve as they told me! They are pretty popular as I read...and I should be proud of being part of their family.
Apart from that, my genealogy includes my mother, which is fairly the most important for me in my whole relative tree...and also includes my father, of whom I'm not so proud, since he left us too soon.
However, I will try to answer a question after I think a little bit more.... I just gave you the first answers that came into my mind...

Wow! Children are one of our most important legacies, and your relative was a true patriot whose sacrifice helped establish our great nation. I'm glad you were able to trace that far back and find him.

When I was much younger I talked to some of the elders of my family about my genology. I discovered that on both sides of my family I'm descended from a long line of low class very poor peasants who left their native countries because they were out of luck and lacking in any opportunity. In short, I'm just a typical American. There is nobody famous in my family.

Thank God there was an America for them to come to. My husbands ancestors were German immigrants who came to America and settled in Tennessee.

Wow that is really interesting. Unfortunately for me I do not know and historical or famous people in my geneology. And you are right this is a very interesting pursuit. Imagine someone traces their geneologies ALL the way back and everyone is connected to Adam and Eve. Oh man that would be straight up weird LOL. But I don't think I have anyone famous in my family.

I heard once that everyone in the
world are at least 52nd cousins
related to one another. I don't know how true
that figure is.

That is very interesting to find out... being related to a very important person who has done something good for the one's country is something to be proud of... in my case... it is so difficult to find out my genealogy since both my parents come from different provinces... and the parent of both are the same thing...
But i wish that i can still trace who my ancestors were...

I haven't found anyone famous in my genealogy, my brother-in-law's genealogy, or my fiance's genealogy. I think we've all got some Civil War veterans, and I know I have at least one Revolutionary War veteran, but they were just rank and file soldiers.

That's really great you have been able to trace your geneology back that far. I think rank and file soldiers are the ones responsible for making our great nation what it is. Thanks fof your comments.

I don't really think we have anyone in particular that is famous in our genealogy. My grandmother used to claim that we are descended from the first king of the Isle of Man, but I don't know if I believe that because her name is so common, I can't trace her family history. Also, we have a famous Scottish military officer in our family named McTaggart, but I don't know how famous he really is outside of the UK or even Scotland. I know we have a very, very, distant cousin by marriage related to the Kennedys, but it's so distant as to be insignificant.
Most of our family seems to be, as far as I know, farmers, tradesmen, merchants, pastors/religious workers, engineers, and skilled workers. In all, pretty average people.

No I actually have no idea. I'm from the Dominican Republic and I was raised here in the U.S. So I don't really know much about the Dominican Republic history. But that is so cool that you are related to Francis Scott Key, that's really awesome. And of course your sons have bragging rights. They should be proud, now they are like celebrities or something. LOL

Our family is related to both Benjamin & William Henry Harrison. My 11 year old son actually did a project for school last year tracing himself back to Benjamin Harrison. (We are also supposed to be distatly related to Pocahontas.)

This is very interesting. Did your son dig out the facts of this geneology by himself? What a great school project.
