when two children got lost. One was found quickly but the other about 20 minutes later and he was very distraught. Each chaperone was assigned their own child and one other to look after for the day. I had Maddy and one other girl, who I must say behaved quite well, moreso than Maddy did LOL We were allowed to walk in groups around the Estate so 6 of us got together with our kids and walked the grounds. After 40 minutes into the walk, we got down to the bottom of a hill, the parent who was looking after "N", asked us if we had seen him. Because we were already busy trying to keep our children assigned to us in order and with us at all times, we had not noticed he wasn't with us. She backtracked up the hill, and found our teacher with another group and told her N was missing. She searched then came back down with her daughter, while the teacher walked around before going to the office to report him missing. We all stayed put and made sure no other kids went astray. Another parent joined in the search and started looking around. Twenty minutes later, she finds him around another corner (we all turned right and he kept on walking straight apparently while looking at his map) and ended up further down with strangers all around him. He was crying and stressed and wouldn't go to anyone. I know I shouldn't judge, but if that was Maddy, I would of been most upset at the parent who lost my child. Sure kids run off or run ahead, but it's still your responsibility to make sure they don't go too far, or at least, don't wander off, and to know where they are at all times. That is what chaperoning is all about, you're responsible to those who are assigned to you, and you better make dayum sure you take care of them like you do your own. The thing that got to me was that parent didn't seem too bothered by it and then says afterwards, "we all need to stick together" and I looked at her for a few seconds, turned and walked away. I was too angry to say anything After all that happened, we went to a park that was very close by to have lunch and a little run around. By then we were all starving and couldn't wait to eat and have a drink. I now have a headache and am going to bed early. I hope this has never happened to any of your children.

Wow, that was really bad, that parent letting the child lose himself. How irresponsible is that? I can't believe that she didn't miss him for so long. Surely, when you only have two children to keep an eye on, you would keep checking on them... I would! Poor little mite... I hope he was ok soon after and not so distressed that it spoiled his day completely. He must have been really scared out there on his own with a bunch of strangers. Silly woman! Does she need the Blonde Award, or what??? Brightest Blessings my friend. Sleep well, and I hope your headache soon clears. xx

I had a good sleep thanks Darkwing and needed it after what happened. It was hard to take when I saw how scared and upset he was, and I wouldn't be surprised if his parents have a go at the teacher about that, even though he was under someone else's care. It was a lot of work having to mind two children, because you know how excited kids get and want to run ahead and see this and that, but they are still manageable, if you keep them in view at all times, making sure where ever you go, they are always with you, even if they are a few steps ahead. Most of us mothers were constantly calling names when they ran too far ahead, or tried to climb up onto a wall and sorts. When we were inside the smaller rooms/pavilions, I held both children's hands because it was so crowded and they could of easily been lost. I think she deserves more than a blonde award LOL Thanks for responding

Daft As A Brush Award - Daft as a brush award
I'm glad you had a good sleep, my friend. That poor little man. I've come up with something better than a blonde award, for this "lady". he he he

I am glad everyone had fun..I know things happen, but when I am watching other people's children..I don't let them out of my sight...I would just die if anything happened to a child in my care...I am glad he was found...

Your right Terry, things do happen but I couldn't understand how she lost him with only minding two children. She had her own which I think she concentrated more on as well as her cellphone (i noticed her on it a lot of times). I'm glad he was found but it got me worried that it could of been my son you know?

That must have been really scary for you all, and for the little child. I have never lost any of my children, I have too many eyes in my head for that! I think that is always one of my main worries, losing a child of mine or anyone elses for that matter. They are never allowed to stray too far from my sight.

The teacher was panicking and I felt for her too. I didn't like the parents attitude and I doubt she will be asked to come along on field trips anymore.

Ohh thats so sad and i feel for the little Guy...What kind of Parent can't watch 2 kids? I'm sorry but what was she doing that she lost him?If I'm going to sign up for this responsibility..I'm going to be sure i can handle it and treat both children like they are my own. I've never had this happen to me cause i understand in seconds things can happen and always hold them or their hands..NO One's getting my children or Grandkids!

Exactly. If any child is under my care, I take care of them the same way I would with my own. I would hope that other parents would do the same for my son too. Makes me want to go on all field trips now after seeing what happened yesterday.

Totally agree and Hopefully this is a one time parent problem, otherwise alot of parents are going to be paranoid about field trips
