Home invasion, has it ever happened to you?

It seems to be apparent lately, that more and more home invasions are happening all across the United States and Canada. When I was 6 my mother and I were out, and our home was invaded, we lost a stereo and my mother has never been able or willing to buy one since. Later on one of my own childhood friends broke into my home while we were out, and stole my Nintendo entertainment system and a butcher knife .. of all things. The lady upstairs from us at the time was robbed and she was alone with her little boy, they were held at knife point, I can only imagine how scary that would actually be. Have you ever been the victim of a home invasion? What happened? If you haven't how do you think you would handle one? Would you pretend to be sleeping? Try to call 9-1-1 while it is occuring? Just let the burglars take, and leave with what they want? Or would you fight back with your fists, a baseball bat, or a gun or some other weapon?

well we have been robbed twice and lucky for us we weren't home, but if I was being robbed and I was home, I would be very afraid, I would just them them anything they wanted and hope they wouldn't hurt me.

I would be afraid also, I think that would be the normal response to an experience like that. I would probably let them take whatever they wanted also, but I think I would depending on the situation.. stay looking for any openings or mistakes that the burglar might make.

I would be depending on you, that is the difference of having a man around the house rather than being alone or just having a daughter or something. Who is afraid of two women.

Hey Esoteric. I've had two breakins at my home. One of the breakins we were not at home it happened in broad day. They got away with my laptop,my kids playstation,a dvd player and some dvd's and they trashed the place. But the second breakin was by far the scariest because my kids and i were home at the time, thankfully we sleep through it.They didn't get anything because one of my neighbors who was just getting in from partying saw them and chased them off, then called me to wake me. The scary thing is one of them was already inside and the other was the lookout. It's been a few years since that incident, but i'm now prepared should it happen again. God forbid.

Exactly god forbid.. I think god made up for the first break in by dispatching your neighbor, at the right moment to prevent the second. I am happy you are alright, and am sure god will forbid it in the future. I am glad you are prepared in case, good luck and god bless.

We have been burglarised one time before we moved to the home we live in now. We were at work. they stole all kinds of stuff. If someone invaded my home and I was in it, i would be so scared and would not be able to fight them back. We never did get any of our things back. We now have ADT on our new home but thiefs know how to disalarm it also.

when I was eleven,my family lived in a old house .One day, about four o'clock ,it is very early and the day still in a dark.My auntie shout out that the door was open,my father and mother was awoke, they went to the balcony from where they found two men was running. Then,my parents checked out to find a mobilphone had been stolen. If I was awake when found them in my home, the first thing I would do may be scream.

Well I am glad that everyone was alright and that all that was taken was a phone. I hope those men were arrested for breaking in your home. thanks for responding and I hope you never have your home broken into again.

yes, several years ago our house was broken in to and the vandal/trespasser was found in a drunken stupor sleeping - soaking wet, on our living room floor. I had started down the stairs and saw him - ran back up stairs and grabbed the clothes rod out of my closet - it was heavy and the only thing up there I could find - while my husband called the police.

I've never been robbed but then I live in a tenement flat - apartment block. I would probably use reasonable force if anyone tried to break in but then I do a martial art so wouldn't advise most people to confront a burglar. Get a good lock on your door and always make sure the door is securely locked. Keep your mobile by your bed to call 911 is also a good idea.

I do Krav Maga, which is an Israeli martial art. It's never to late to learn a martial art and you feel a helluva lot safer when you have learnt even the basics.

I am happy that you have never experienced a break in. I think it's cool that you have martial arts training ... in which discipline(s)? I see how that would come in handy in defending ones self. I wish I had gotten training when I was younger. I hope you never have to contend with this scenario, and that is good advice you give.
