Well yeah, "drinking too much water will cause blindness" topic was just discussed in my neighborhood just now. unbelievable. any english article you ever found on Internet please? I would need the proof. This talk just happened back then with some older people and they read about it somewhere else (the article was in some certain language, and well, I'm illiterate in their language characters). They said that too much water drinking would erase some minerals and good nutrition inside our bodies. But I thought that the tea was the one that really did it. How come they said waters? I just found it unbelievable, how come "drinking too much water" will cause a blindness towards the person?? As far as I know water is the most safe drink I can ever find (and we are talking about drinkable water), compared to tea, coffee, and some other drinks. So people, now I'm really curious, what kind of drink / beverages that is really safe for our health???

really? where did you hear about that? i mean if water is not safe then what are we going to drink that is safe? it is summer here and drinking a lot of water helps us to rehydrate. sweating to much because of too much heat is really very irritating. i found this http://skepticalpd.com/blog/drinking-too-much-water-can-cause-blindness/ it said there that the woman drank more water than her body needed, she drank more than three times the recommended daily consumption for sedentary adults. i think what ever you take in excessive is bad. she drank 7 litters but we only nee 8 glasses of water a day. my aunt drinks only 4 glasses of water a day because thats what her doctor told her 5 or more will make her sick might cause complication. thanks i learned something from here. good work pal

thanks for sharing the information about the woman. someone responded before you did also gave two urls that confirmed the one you mentioned (you can see the url at comment #7). I was shocked by the fact she drank so much water. I thought 2L per day was many enough and she even drank 7L * gulp * to my shock. most of us assumed that more water would be okay, now it seemed like we have to know how much is enough.

When I first read this I wanted to jump right in and say that you can't lose your sight by drinking too much water but decided see what I could find out on the internet. I found that you can lose your sight by drinking too much water. This woman became blind by drinking too much water. For three months, she made herself drink 7 litres of water a day. Initially, the woman would keep running to the toilet. But after some time, it led to water intoxication. Too much water consumed causes hyponatremia, a condition where there is insufficient sodium in the blood. You can read more here http://health.asiaone.com/Health/News/Story/A1Story20071126-38394.html http://infernokidd.blogspot.com/2008/01/blindness-from-too-much-water.html

Dear friend, I do not think too much of drinking water makes blind that is something I had heard for the first time. Any how I hope there are other better drinks good fresh juices, milk so on. Still I wonder those creatures in water they drink water too much and they are not yet blind too. May only for humans. Every day rise with new ideas and inventions.

Just drink the right amount of water everyday Bro. A little more is not harmful. Moderation is the key, even with water. I don't think you want to get bloated with water, or else, you will be going back and forth to the bathroom. Hey, I also know of a product that you can get. Try herbalife products. I think it is all natural.

I don't know about water. It is said, as I have heard it, you need 8 glasses of water a day. I think that is just an old wives' tale, pardon the expression. A really good drink is Complan. When I was growing up my mum paid lots of attention to her children's health and I got, for the first 19 years of my life, until grandma passed away, a large mug of milo with Complan. I am now 57 years old, hardly ever sick except for the usual colds, and, believe it or not, don't look like 57.

i really have no idea knowing this kind thing dear friend. in my opinion it could be happened if we drink contaminated water. i mean here although the water looks so great (not have any color) but actually its already contaminated with some substances. and if we drink about the good water then i don't think it can be dangerous us in here. and i also notice that you said tea able to make us blind? the how could be? in my opinion either tea or coffee if drink too much will harm our health

oops, what I actually meant was: tea was the one that would erase the nutrition or minerals from our body. sorry if my sentence caused confusion.

of course that's not true.. it can be dangerous if you drink too much water at the same time... it can lead to intoxification... its like when you drink too much, you are "drowned" in it... here is an english article that you might want to read about. http://wmaq.weatherplus.com/fitness/10785588/detail.html

haha! don't believe everything you hear. Seems like people really get bored nowadays. I mean, from a medical point of view, you SHOULD drink like 2,5 litres of water daily. That quantity goes up in the summer, due to the heat and the consequent sweating. "Drinking to much water"...well, what does that mean? 10 litres/day? if you do that, then "POSSIBLY blindness" is not your imediate word fear. believe me. There are people who suffer from diabetes insipidus (that's the loggical translation from Romanian, i don't know if it's corect in english), meaning they lack ADH (anti-diuretic hormone), and they urinate a lot, so they have to drink a lot so they don't dehydrate. So, water is safe to drink. Other drinks are safe to drink, too, but no abuses must be made. :)

There are quite a few beverages good for health. Commonly, tea is thrown around. Green tea perhaps? Even coffee is good. Try soy bean milk too.

green tea? well, I heard that green tea was not too good for slim people because of the 'slimming' effect. but I heard that it was good to prevent aging and cancer? soy bean milk is good, indeed, but probably we cannot always drink it right? I think water is still the one that really satisfies us from our thirst.

I only hear that drinking more water is healthy. I have never heard that it will lead to blindness. I think it's only a rumor. That's impossible to be blind when you drink more water. It doesn't make a sense at all.

Hello dear bkps. I do not think that it is true that drinking too much water will cause blindness because it does not sound scientific. I love to drink water, especially tea and some orange juice and some other drinks. I think that it is safe to drink too much water as it helps clean our intestine and stomach, which is good, I think.

Whether or not the water is safe to drink depends on the quality and origins of the water. Beyond that, yes, you can drink too much water, and it can have ill effects on your health (although I've never heard that blindness is one of them) such as non-absorption of vitamins, etc. You would have to only drink a lot of water in most cases in order to have these ill effects, and in most older people, it's the opposite case, they don't drink enough water. Here's a link to another article about this issue: http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm that talks about the most important element of not getting water intoxication is drinking it slowly over time, not all at once. Hope this helps.

yes, the quality and origins are some things to concern about too. I would also feel sick when I just drank too much water, but less water is not good either. so we still need "enough water" one should not drink too fast (at once), I conclude. little water but often is safer than too much water at one drink. thanks for the information from the about.com link. I never knew it back then.

Hello,my friend,i think your discussion surprise me deeply.when i reading your discussion,i am drinking a cup of water. Most of the people all said that it is helpful to drink more water.there are several reasons to believe.fristly, drinking much water could make your intestine move, and it helps the digest system easier to digest.secondly,it could help people to expel from more rubbish in the body can lose weight.the last but not the least, drinking more water could help girl to make their skin sooth. It is said that one person must drink at least seven water one day.So i always drink much water, and i love the water though,it has no taste. I think after reading the discussion,i must refer to some books. It makes me afraid of drinking much more water.

I've never heard anything like that before! I don't really believe that things like that would happen unless there was something bad that was mixed in with the water or something. I have always heard just good things about drinking water and that most people actually need to drink more water than they already do. I think it is safe and healthy to drink lots of water. :)

You were saying the article was in some "alien" language? Perhaps the article was a warning for that nation only. Perhaps the water was contaminated and not safe for drinking. About 70% of our body is made up of water. Water is essential for survival including helping us to perform our basic activities like breathing. Too much water might cause water retention in some and may not be good for them. In my opinion, any water that is not warned or banned by the WHO should be safe for drinking.

Congratulations for being in the top discussions, my friend! Well, I have never read anything about too much water intake causes blindness. But anything that is taken too much has some side effects. I take more than 8 cups of water a day, and it helped me cleanse my body from virus!

I do not think that drinking too much water can make you blind, unless of course the water is polluted and there are critters in it which could cause blindness or other problems. In some parts of the world, this may indeed be possible. In an area with clean water, there would be no problem drinking water and no risk of blindness. Drinking too much water and not taking time to urinate, as happened here in the States in a contest held by a radio station for a wii awhile back, can be fatal and was in fact fatal for one woman.
