Scientists Fear Chemical in Plastic Could Be Harmful. I was so glad that I caught the Today show a few days ago when they had this segment on about the Plastice bottles and other plastic ware products.I can say I went through all the plastic bottles and dishes I have and tossed anything that had a 3,6,7 on them. We have enought things to worry about nowdays instead of worring about if our water bottles is posioning us, What are your views on this? Will you go throught your cabinets and toss/recycle? Do you even care? I will admist I reuse plastics all the time even though they were disposable, To save money I would even reuse thouse microwavable plates and bowls(just to reheat food)But they are the perfect things to use for small fast meals just use a little press and seal and you have a ready meal. — From food-storage containers to disposable silverware, plastic products are such a part of our lives that it's easy to forget they contain chemicals that could harm us. , San Francisco banned a type of sturdy, hard plastic made with a molecule known as bisphenol A , or BPA. Any toys, bottles and pacifiers made with BPA must be replaced, according to the law the mayor signed in June. Why did the city take such drastic action? BPA, like many other man-made chemicals, is now detectable in most people's bloodstreams and could cause dangerous hormonal changes in children. BPA — sometimes indicated by a numbers 3,6,7 on plasticware products — it is found mostly in strong plastics, such as nondisposable water bottles, baby bottles and in the lining of canned foods. But whether BPA poses a real danger depends on whom you ask. While the Food and Drug Administration and the American Plastics Council insist BPA is safe, an outspoken biology professor and other scientists believe it may bring all kinds of harm — such as cancer, early puberty, obesity and even attention-deficit disorder. Makes you wanna just start giving your children glassware doesn't it. Never thought it could me such a major cause of these symptoms.

Well, I hope that there isn't anything wrong with the plastics but I'm not going to worry about it. Afterall, I've been using them for years and I'm still alive so they can't be that hazardous. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I still find myself checking things for their numbers. I guess I get a little hyped up about certain things that I shouldn't get so hyped u about but with the health problems me andmy family face I figured this will just be a right step in the right direction by avoiding the numbers they say could leak hazardous chemicals into our food and drinks. It just seems that everything seems to be turning toxic or whatever lately due to research. Maybe this will be a turning point for manufactors to change the way they package things.

I guess that is all we can do is try to take care of our families. Your right. Everything seems bad then we hear that it isn't and now days even the good stuff is sometimes bad since it is mostly being recalled for it having salmonella and Ecoli and other stuff. Well take care.

I guess it's just me. It seems like everytime I turn around there is something "not good for me" and then 6 months later it's fine. Eggs for a long time were considered so bad, ppl quit eating them. Then for awhile more than a certain amount of water was bad for you. Not to mention red meat, pork, chicken, deep fried, caffeine, and chocolate. I just do what I can to try to watch my health and keep going. It's good that your watching out for your family...I'm sure their happy that you do. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Hi mtdewgurl74! Oh goodness! I do reuse disposable plastic ware products to save money too and I thought that I have to contribute something in saving the environment by recycling. And after reading your post, I went through all my plastic wares to see if there is the 3,6,7..I am not really sure where to look at...Then I saw only 5 and a 10 at the bottom of my plastic wares and luckily no 3,6,7. I also went through all the canned goods that are stacked in the cupboard and unfortunately there are no numbers written at the bottom or the lining of the tin can which makes me worry. I just wanted to be safe and be extra careful than being sorry in the end. Thank you for this information, I really appreciate this post of yours. Just my thoughts. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day.

Bad thing is that some plastics aren't even marked because they aen't reqiured to But some have them marked with a number inside of a triangle. It is scary in my own opinion anyhow to think that we do what we can to keep chiuldren safe and then just to find out that we are harming them in other ways by feeding then with these unsafe plastic products or letting them drink out of unsafe containers. Take care and have a good day yourself.

I just saw this post by another person hear. I didn't know about it until now. I never reheat any plastic in the microwave, and I also knew that feeding cats in plastic bowls was no good, they get poisoned from it. I am so happy that Canada will pass a bill to eliminate plastic food containers now, somebody has to make the first step.

I didn't know about not feeding cat out of plastic bowls, but then what hurts us can also affect out animals. Thanks for reminding me and I will tell all my family about the animals bowls. Times are changing and we need to change with them. I will no longer microwave in plastic bowls, but I thought I was helping by reusing things and keeping it out of the landfills and things. Recycling is a must nowdays if we want our children to have a better future. I think that it is great that they will be passing the bill about the containers and maybe the United States will also pass that bill. I buy a few microwavable dinners a month for when I don't feel like cooking and sometimes those dinners have plastic dishes and sometimes cardboard containers. I guess that even if the cardboard ones don't taste as good maybe I should just start buying them instead. Then again if they are made from recycled products no telling what are in them either. Have a great day winterose and happy posting..see ya later.

I have heard something about this on the news. I think they are digging up alot of bad things that are not good for us anymore. I will have to check and see what I have. I'm not sure if I can afford to throw alot of things out.

Yeah I know what you mean. But I guess it would help in the future when purchasing other plastic items. I cleaned out my cabinet and had to start over a little at a time to get plastic glasses I used glass till I was able to get plastic that didn't have the numbers that were bad on them.

Everything seems to be bad now. I reuse stuff too. Who even knows what is true anymore and what isn't. I would trust the FDA over some outspoken professor, people will try to make a buck any way they can.

Thanks for your response skinnychick, I really appreciate your opinion on the matter. Maybe the FDA will give this a closer check up and give us their thoughts on the matter so we won't be running around like chickens with our heads cut off. I agree their are those only out to make a fast buck and don't care about how much they stir up a pot of muck. Have a good day .
