I use my microwave oven, only to heat things up mostly. I do not cook in it much. I will make some things in there like macaroni & cheese. Do you use your microwave a lot?

Yeah like you I use my microwave oven mostly for heating up food. I do use it to melt cheese once in a while when I cook macaroni cheese too. Macaroni and sauce and meat is all cooked then the final stage is at a piece of cheese on top and put it in the microwave. I have used the microwave to steam egg with mince meat too. But rarely use it anymore nowadays. As my rice cooker has a steamer insert. So while hte rice is being cooked I just put the dish to on top of the steamer insert and steam it. Kill two birds with one stone. Save time, save electricity.

The microwave does save on electricity. It sounds like you use yours about like I do.

I am from South East Louisiana and they eat rice with every meal, I have never been able to use a rice cooker, oh I can use it it not that hard, just dont' like the way it comes out, I boil mine till tender and then run hot water over it. Makes the rice where you can pick it up one grain at a time. But you have a great idea there with the insert. I have a steamer that goes in the microwave and I use it a lot to steam begetables.

Nowadays all the non stick rice cookers in my country Malaysia comes with a steamer insert. The non stick traditional ones are still on sale. But by investing on the non stick ones, every grain of rice is eaten up. None is left. There for ther is no wastage.

I use my microwave mostly in the summer time to cook tv dinners, my husband goes home to Louisiana for several months in the summer and since that leaves me alone, I see no need to cook big meals so I will just have a tv dinner in the microwave. I also use it to defrost chicken, or what ever I need in a hurry. To warn up leftovers, how did we ever live without a microwave back in the old days lol!

I love pot pies, you know there are so many things we have today that we can't live without, sometimes I laugh when I think of the 60's and we had none of these things. i thought I was some big deal when I came home with the first microwave, we had to relocate from Louisiana after the Hurricane and when we got the money for our home first thing I bought was a microwave, even before a bed, lol.

I am not one to use the microwave for cooking. I do defrost frozen meats in it and do occasionally heat vegetables in it. I prefer cooking on the stove and using my oven.

I use my microwave at lunch time a lot. Usually to re-heat left overs or to cook microwave meals. I don't cook a lot in it either. But I do get a lot of use out of it re-heating things, or defrosting things.

I honestly only use my microwave to heat up water, melt something for a recipe, make microwave popcorn (my FAVORITE).. or if my coffee is too cold. I don't like the way food tastes out of the microwave. I take that back.. I do make instant potatoes in the microwave, but that's it. The boys use it daily to reheat left overs. I still prefer reheating things on the stove or in the oven. They just taste better to me. I recently put the microwave on top of my refrigerator to clear counter space, as I don't use it enough for it to be in my way! The boys are both at or slightly above 6 feet tall.. so they don't mind it being on top of the fridge. It also keeps my 5 year old from experimenting with it.

Not much, we use it only when we have foods that we need to eat warm or hot, like pizza, some soup, and bread...otherwise, we don't use it. In fact there are more days that our microwave oven is not in use, than those days that we use it. But it is still necessary, and efficient. It heats faster than the ordinary oven, that's why.

I use it a medium amount. I rarely have microwave meals, so I don't use it as much as many other people. So far today, I have used it to heat up pancakes.

I use to think that I did not use mine a lot, until a couple of weeks ago when mine quit. I was so disappointed. It was a big microwave and I find myself missing it a lot now that it is gone.

there are a lot of other things you can do with your microwave I like to cook my vegetables in it as I do not need anyextra water and it just takes a short while to cook them. Also you keepmost of the vitamins in your veggies this was. It is an excellent way to cook nice fluffy rice that is not soggy or mushy. I do use it every day to save time energy and vitamins too.

not really... I only use it to reheat things or to defrost them. I believe that cooking in an oven gives the food a different taste as well as a different texture...

You are right, that is why I do not cook meats and things in mine. I only heat things up too.
