My Disappearing Doberman

I had a funny scarey thing happen yesterday. I went out of town for a few hours. Before I left, I put my doberman in my bedroom, because she's gotten bad about getting on my living room furniture when I'm not home. I was gone about 6 hours so knew she'd be anxious to go outside when I returned. I went to the bedroom and opened the door and expected her to come dashing out the door as soon as I opened it. Instead she was nowhere in site. I was totally baffled because I knew I left her there and the door was still closed. I even checked the windows to see if she somehow crashed through them or something and everything was at it should be -- just no dog. My heart sank. I knew if she was in the room and alive she'd be bouncing up and down at my return. The only place that I couldn't see was under my bed, and although I really don't think she could fit under there anyway, all I could think was that she crawled up under there and died. I was about to look under there but at the same time kept calling her name. About that time I heard a scratching at my closet door. LOL. I have a walk-in closet and she knows she's not supposed to go in there, but somehow she had managed to push it open, went inside and the door latched behind her. I opened it to find a really sheepish doberman looking up at me. She didn't know whether to be happy that she'd been rescued or to be afraid because she was where she wasn't supposed to be. LOL

My mum and dad had a dog that did this, we hunted high and low for him and could not find him and eventually we found him in the bathroom, he had gone in there and because it was a small room, he must have turned around and somehow shut the door on himself!! He was panting like mad, but luckily the toilet seat was up and so he could at least have a drink, even though it is a horrible thought!! They are worse than kids dogs are!!!

SO what did you do? Give hugs or scold or both? Did you check your shoes for chew marks? My dog loves making a mess and then looking like she is innocent like who me? Noo not me it was the cat who done it..lol Well, I hope your closet was left intact.

Lucky for you that the cat and the dog got along otherwise they both would have had battle scars and your closet contents torn to shredds. I know My pets do not get along at all and the dog gets a few scratches on her nose for her curiousity with the cat and getting rough house with the cat is a lesson learned.

Nothing in the closet was damaged, thank goodness. There was a very guilty looking cat in there with her, so I don't know which one pushed the door open and went in first, but they were trapped together. I laughed and then scolded her, for all the good that it did.

My dog's nose is full of cat scratch scars. LOL. She's learned to be nice to all but one of them. I have one cat that slaps her just for the heck of it when she walks by and that makes her so mad she can hardly stand it. She knows better than to actually hurt the cat, but she will snap at her and growl fiercely.

That is too funny. I think of cats doing that, rather than dogs. I am so glad you did not really lose your dobie. So which did you do first, scold, or hug? Laugh or cry?

I was laughing so hard that I could hardly stand up. The look on her face was totally hillarious. She was happy she'd been rescued, but at the same time knew that she'd been caught doing what she knew she should not do.

LOL Caught in the act, I see. Wonder if you dog learned something from this experience. If she's anything like my dog, nope. lol Domingo is always finding ways to get himself in trouble. I swear he does it for even more attention than he's already getting. He hates being locked up in a room. Well, one day he was sleeping on the bed while I was gone and the door closed on him. I came home to a ton of whimpering and whining and followed his crying to my bedroom. The window was open so I'm assuming the wind blew the door shut on him. Found out from my neighbor a few days later he stood at that window and cried his heart out almost the whole time I was gone. The door must of closed soon after I left. He could of easily pushed the screen out and jumped out but he remembers the last time he did that lil trick and now respects screens. Guess he was hoping someone would hear his cries and help him 'escape' the room. lol

LOL. I guarantee you that she learned nothing from the experience except to try to be more careful not to get caught next time!
