School Lunches

I have read all this garbage about not allowing kids to bring in cupcakes for birthdays or snacks yet take a look at the typical lunch menu at the school. Pizza twice a week, chicken nuggets, chicken patty sandwich for lunch. Breakfast had milk, juice and a honey bun. Oh lots of fat and sugar...Do any schools out there serve anything other than this junk?

Nope. My daughter's school is about the same. I am thoroughly disgusted. I try to encourage her to eat the canned fruit and salad (probably from a bag) options, but figure I'll just have to feed her super healthy things at home.

They don't even make half the food anymore. Pizza hut day for crying out loud. On days when they offer healthy or items you have to pay extra for additional servings. They call this the snack account at school...grrr next year it will be bag lunches!

Some school menus are appalling hence why when my daughter starts in september she will be taking a packed lunch with lots of different healthy foods, the odd sweet or crisp can be kept for at home if school is that against it. I can see why they are trying to control what children bring in but it is very hypocritical to then feed them junk on the school menu

My son's school is doing a pretty good job of offering better meals for the kids. Here is a weeks menu for his school. Oh, and at his school you can bring whatever treats you want. Monday Country Fried Steak Mashed Potatoes & Gravy/Biscuit Black Eyed Peas Oreo Cheesecake Tuesday Tuna on Bun Lettuce Leaf Carrots Drumstick Wednesday Roast Beef Curly Fries Steamed Carrots Snickerdoodle Thursday Turkey & Dressing Mashed Potatoes & Gravy/Hot Roll Green Peas Fruit Salad Friday Nachos Lettuce & Tomatoes Mexican Rice Pineapples

Lol makes sence... If the schools wish to change diets or switch the childrens foods to a more a healthy life style, they should start from within the school. I personally have not heard of schools offering more healthy foods choices.
