As many of you know already Im pregnant. Well Ive had two boys but never have I had headaches like this. Im hoping someone has some good tips for me out there. The doctors tell me you can take 3 tylenol regular strenght a day ha that does nothing at all to help me. So anyone got some safe releif ideas for a poor pregnant gal? And heck while we are at it any one else have these awful migrane headaches......if so I feel for you so much.

I suffer from migraines so I do know how you feel. I also suffer from just bad headaches and they can be miserable. Here is something to try. Take bengay or similar muscle rub. Rub it on your temples, forehead and the back of your neck. Then lay down in a cool, dark room. It can help.
They do sell a rub that you can use for headaches, it can work as well. I'm blanking on the name but it's in the headache relief aisle.
A cold pack on the eyes can ease the pain also. I'd suggest caffeine like drinking a cup of coffee, tea or coke but I know many pregnant women don't want to drink caffeine. A herbal tea that is relaxing like chamomille can help though.
Good luck.

Well I hope they help and the headaches go away. I know how miserable they are. Sometimes if you can distract yourself from the pain it can help. I have had that happen.

I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering from these migraines minnie - they are awful aren't they? I had awful migraines with my first but not so bad with the second, I think it had something to do with the hormones that change during pregnancy although I am prone to migraine anyway! An icepack or damp flannels that have been kept in the freezer are about the best advice I can give you - also if you rub an ice cube on your inner wrist it helps slightly, sounds odd I know but it honestly gives some relief! I hope that the migraines stop soon! xxx

Minnie your blood pressure is alright, right? I am wondering what kind of headache it is. Is it sinus? This time of year can really play havoc with some people. About all you can do is lie down, cool wash clothes maybe an ice bag inside the cloth. Pamper your self some Minnie, long baths, naps. That sort of thing,, if you can not get in a dark quiet place there is always duck tape to tape everyones mouths shut for awhile.

When I was pregnant my daughter I had those same awful headaches...the doctor said to make sure you get lots of sleep and try taking a sudafed before bed & if I got one...surprisingly it worked!
Make sure it is ok with your doc/pharmacist - don't use the "fake" sudafed - it has to be psuedophedrine according to the pharmacist.
Also try elevating your feet when you sleep and not eat anything salty - my blood pressure was ok, but they said it could be a sign of hypertension, so if you get any sudden swelling or any other symptoms don't be afraid to drive your doctor crazy with questions :)
They also made me start taking iron pills because my iron test came back too low - so ask them about that if/when you get one or see them.
best of wishes to you & your family!

Minnie, if you are swelling, its time to see your doctor. some swelling in pregnancy is normal and expected... Chesh I did not have any ankles at all during a couple of my pregnancies. Best to have it looked at, and YES cut back on that salt. very good advice here.

hello again.. I picked up this months issue of "First" I had never read it before so I thought I'd check it out. Anyway.. it lists a couple of things that you can do. I thought about you
It says to put 2 tsp of mustard powder in warm water and soak your feet in it. (you can probably find it a a health store) for about 10 minutes.. It says that the myrosin helps draw the blood to your lower half.. therefore pulling the blood that's built up in your skull down to the lower half of your body. It is said to work in minutes.
Some causes of headaches are listed too.. Paraffin candles (partylite) give off formaldehyde as they burn which can trigger headaches. You are better of burning vegetable/soy candles, or use the battery operated candles.
Again..I hope you find relief soon

The only thing I hated about being pregnant was the limitation of medicines you can take. I did get bad headaches when I was pregnant and the only thing that helped me was not medicine. Find the one thing that relaxes you the most and do that. Also, you can try closing your eyes and trying to relax. That sometimes helps, but is hard to do. And one last thing that I can think of is to get your hubby to rub your neck, the area closer to your head. Sometimes the headaches are tention headaches and that tends to help. I hope they get better for you!

hi. how are you today? hope all is well. i feel your pain.
i am pregnant too. i have had headaches one day it was bad, and the other it was mild. I talked to the nurse about the headaches. she told me that it might have something to do with preclampsia. Also it could be lack of sleep, and the stress i maybe dealing with. i got more sleep and am staying free of stress. it has helped me a lot.
i was told the same thing u were in regards to taking tylenol for the pain. i was very skeptical about taking pills even though they are approved to take during pregnancy. i felt it was going to do harm to my unborn. i decided to stick it out
if i were you, i would get it checked out, before it gets worse.

The one thing that I have found is called Head On and it is safe since you are pregnant. You can get it called Head On Migraines. That is what I use and think that it works pretty good. It is about $6 for a tube but all you do is put it on your forehead and I usually put it on my temples also. Rub it on your forehead and the side of your head about lined up with your eyes. It works for me. You should try it.

i got horrendous headaches when i was pregnant.. and the tylenol really didnt do much for them either. i found aromatherapy did quite a bit. get yerself some lavendar and peppermint oils (can find em in any craft store, but the ones found in an occut/magic shop that are actual natural essences, works better) take two cotton balls.. add some lavendar oil to one, and the peppermint to the other, and alternate smelling them each for a few seconds. sounds kinda wacky, but its kicked some seriously nasty headaches for me, and without having to take anything that might harm the baby.

Sorry,am late in seeing yr post. By now,I hope, u would have taken proper treatment and cured off the headache. If not, let me pray to Him for quick relief. In fact, prayer is the best medicine for cure! (Fun part, how about trying a post on prayer-medicine!). Good day.

I will lay in a dark room with a cloth on my forehead, which gives me some relief. Also a nice bath can help me feel better. Sorry the Tylenol isn't working and it doesn't always help me either.

Oh they are just horrible arn't they? I had those with my first pregnancy and they were so bad I would be sick. What I used to do was get a cold flannel and put it on my forehead and then lay down and just massage my temples very gently, when the flannel went warm I would wet it again, I would be soaking wet but boy did it help. But also I later found out that the headaches were linked to high blood pressure and so when I got the headaches it meant that my blood pressure was very high, do you have yours checked regularly?.

I feel for you. I have migraines.. the only thing that helps me is 4 Advil, my head buried under the pillows and silence. I can also rub my temples and the base of my neck, and even up to the base of my skull. I wish you luck and hope you can find relief soon
