I often have strong migraines. They usually last for a minimum of 3/4 days and no matter what I do , they don't go away before that. Before there seemed to be no pattern to my migraines and they could come at any time, although sometimes I didn't have any for months and months. Lately it seems that there is a pattern. I always have a strong migraine more or less at the time of my period. That makes one a month and it's not nice LOL Are there any more women out there that seem to have the same problem? DO you find other patterns for your migraines ?Which ones? What do you do for relief?

I take Excedrin Migraine for my migraines, I also have an herbal supplement called Fever Few. Only place I have found it is at GNC General Nutrition Store. I also eat Hershey's chocolate bar and drink a coke. I also take a goody pain med if nothing else works. Laying in a dark room with my eyes shut, doesn't work unless I am trying to go to sleep. Good Luck I hope your migraines go away and this was helpful info

icyorchid just so you know there is no difference between Excedrin, Excedrin Migraine or the generic of Excedrin. They all have the same amounts of Tylenol, Aspirin and caffeine. They just slap the Migraine label on it and charge more for it because of it. So you can save a bit of money by just buying the generic.

emeraldisle, pharmaceutical companies often do that don't they?

Most times medication only works when the migraine is just starting. After that it seems more complicated. For me the best thing is just to lay down in a dark room without moving a muscle. I do feel nausea sometimes so I don't want to eat anything and I certainly don't want to get up to cook. This is what works the best for me, but it's not the best idea specially since I have to go to work LOL

If I am going to get a migraine it is going to be either when I am ovulating or during my period. I ended up going to get a prescription. I can't take walking around 3 days with a migraine not going away.

SO there seems to be a relation between both the period or ovulation and migraines. As for medication, tylenol or advil don't really work much. I used to have this pills that the doctor prescribe me that really worked, but they were really strong and more than that extremely expensive . $25 just for one pill. But boy! Did they work LOL

I have something for tension headache and imitrex (generic) for migraines. Both work for me and both prescriptions were really cheap.

I found that I had less migraines, and for a while none at all when I added more magnesium rich foods and a magnesium supplement, to my diet. That is add more sea food, beans, and nuts. I would have them about four times a year. Also, mine do seem related to weather. I had one this last weekend, and I have not had them in ages, like over a year. I think taking Black Cohosh helps me, as well. That would tie into menstrually related. I have had a hysterectomy.

I eat plenty of food rich in magnesium in a regular basis. I seem to only have these migraines around the time of my period or, as someone else said, at the time of ovulation.

When I was on Birth Control, I would get them just before my period for about a week. Then, once I got off BC, the frequency of them came to an end. Now, I only get them if I am really stressed about something or when the atmospheric/barometric pressure is high because we are going to get a storm. Not all storms will do it to me. And, I couldn't tell you how high the pressure has to be to insure a migraine but, it is something I noticed. What helps me is normal visits to a Chiropractor. I see a Chiro once a month every month. He usually keeps my migraines at bay. But, there are still occasions when I will get them because of the atmosphere or stress. But, no longer because of my menstrual cycle or misalignment of my spine. So, my suggestion would be, if you are on BC and can get off of it, you might see that you stop getting them. Otherwise, see if a Chiropractor can't make you feel better when you get them...although, I think yours are hormonal and I don't know if a Chiro would be effective for that kind of Migraine.

yea, i have been on the Nuvaring only a few months and that is probably why I've been getting them now alongside my medication. I had a girl at work tell me that it was the ring that was giving me the headaches--she would try keeping her ring in 4 weeks instead of the 3 weeks and said her head would be aching so much. The ring is the only thing that gave me the least side effects so Im sticking with it because the pill gave me serious PMS. I know exactly when to take my ring out now because I feel the hint of the headache coming on.

That is how I feel too. My side effects of being on BC far outweighed the positive effect of protecting me against getting pregnant. I can't believe how much better I feel now that I am no longer on BC. So, then my suggestion to you would be to see if it is either atmospheric, stress related or something with your spine. Perhaps you could use a Chiropractic adjustment.

My migraines used to center around my period, and they usually still do, although I now have them more often. And mine would last days. My gyn. put me on birth control because that levels out some of the hormones that cause the migraines that are caused because of the periods. I'm on Yasmin, and I've been told by a couple of doctors that is the best kind for 'period' centered migraines. Ortho-tri-cyclen I've heard it also effective. However, I still get a lot of migraines. And I currently take Amerge. However, when my insurance covered it, I took Imitrex shots, and girl, those work (the needle injects itself when you push a button)!

Hi, arkaf61, just want to say the next time you go to the DR. ask if they have some samples, also there are programs that can help you buy the medication you need. My husband takes a lot of medicine it is expensive, but if it were not for those type of programs we would be in real trouble. Check around, because migraines take away so much of your life. Thanks popciclecold

You know I had migraines when I was a kid that were just awful and I knew never to bend over because I would get the worst pounding. I used to kid that I had a brain tumor but I honestly never knew what it was, it would come and go but I had them for years and they just disappeared, I just dont recall when because I was a kid and was just doing other things. My family didnt use aspirin so I just never brought it up to my parents and I drank alot of water so I don't think it was that. I have such a low tolerance for migraines now that even the slightest hint of one makes me want to run. I try to tell myself that if I just drink water or get some gaterade in me that will work but it doesnt always work that way. I was outside walking under the hot sun the other day with the kids and by the end of the night my head was pounding even with all the gatorade, I had to call my boyfriend to come home a little early because the only thing i could think of was sleep and it worked so well. Thank goodness, thats a rare thing, but I do take a medication that might bring them on if Im sweating alot or working strenuosly, I have to keep that in check.

MUnching garlic ? I do like garlic a lot, don't think I ever used it that way, but hey, I can do that:) ALso accupuncture... I remember years back I used to work at a hospital and we had an acupuncture clinic. The doctor was also the head of general medicine team was a wonderful lady and she got me acupuncture sessions for my headaches. But it wasn't for migraines at that time, just regular headaches. I think it worked. I can't remember now because one of the things that happened was that it also did something even more amazing:I never breathe trough my nose. I broke it when I was a kid, but was a mouth breather even before. The thing was that as soon as she would get the needles in, I would be able to breathe through my nose perfectly. It was so incredible I even forgot about the headaches LOL

Hello There! I always have to go to my OB for my irregular menstrual period and at times, I had experienced a severe migraine. She told me that it is normal if we experience that though not that too often. I just took her advice and take some pain reliever (advil, biogesic or anything for migraine) then after 2 periods more, my migraine stopped. If it is really consistent, I suggest that you see an OBgyne since it only occurs when you have your period. Take good care!

You might be low in Progesterone. Go to http://www.johnleemd.com/ and look around his site. It explains what low progesterone can do to women and men alike. After you have taken a look at that site and you are interested in getting some hormone balancing cream, please go to www.nomorehotflashes.myarbonne.com Be sure and sign the guest book!

I get them a few times a week. It's very painful and I have bottles of motrin usually not too far of where I might be- like in each bathroom, at the computer desk, and 1 in a drawer in the kitchen. I hate migraines, have had them since I was young.

I am suffering from migraine from last 10 years.Intially the attack was very frequent, once in a every month. Now this happens only in summer.Actually summer is too hot in my country. I felt severe pain in right part of my head.I cannot open my eyes whenever I suffer migrain. I found that when I am exposed to direct sunlight for 2 to 3 hours especially in summer, I suffered from migrain. I take a aspirin tablet or a sleeping peel and sleep in a cool dark room. My grandma told me to put a drop of mustard oil in both nostril and these really works.

Hi there, I am not a woman to give any feedbacks on these but I do know a way or two to treat a migraine. If you can find ginger in your place, slice a few piece, put it on your forehead and then get a cloth and put it around your head.At this point the ginger is between the cloth and your forehead.Tie the cloth as tight as you can.If you would like to feel even better, sleep in room where there's no light at all.It should be pitch dark.Sleeping in a dark room and ginger on your forehead should help.My mum always face this and she practices these methods.Seems to be working well.Just a suggestion.

I have heard about ginger before that sounds like an idea. Back home they use to cut potato in slices and use it in the same manner. Sometimes we forget about these old remedies that seem to work. THanks for the tip, I will try it.
