Knock and Disappear!

When you go to someone's door, do you knock and disappear or do you knock and wait for someone to answer the door? Let me explain: This morning, someone knocked at my door. I got up looked out the window, no one was there. I sat back down and proceeded to do work on the computer and watch TV. Someone knocked again at the door. I got up again looked out the window, no one there. Now my window is right next to my door, so I can see if anyone is standing on the side or not. I sat back down again and started working again. Third time knocking harder! I got up again and went to the kitchen window where I can see EVERYTHING! Our Van, the trailer next to ours and the driveway thinking someone was on the other side where I could not see them. NO ONE WAS THERE!!! I called hubby at work and told him what was going on. I put the butter knife in the door like he showed me after I got off the phone, and sat back down. AGAIN Knocking harder this time, right after hubby calls and asked if they did it again and I said yes just now and I didn't get up this time. He walked out his building (he works down the block, so he can see everything), and says he sees a white van with some guys around it. He came down the street and tried to stop the van and the wouldn't stop for him. All the knocking stopped, so I don't know what the heck that was about, but it sure does seemm strange to me and I was pretty upset with the knocking and disappearing thing. I hate to call hubby for things like that, but I didn't know what else to do. I don't answer my door if I don't see anyone there or if I don't know the person knocking. Especially after Sunday Night with the woman and the police. What do you think was going on? How would you have handle that? What do you do when you knock on someone's door?

When I knock on someone's door, it is because I need to see them for some reason.. There is no good reason to knock and run.. I believe that if I were you, I would have called the police.. Usually when someone does this, they may be checking before trying to break in on someone.. So, yes, I would call the police.. Take care and be careful

Hi Donna, I don't know what it was all about, but hubby told me to call him if anything happens here, so I did. I told him I will not hesitate to call 911 if I feel threatened again. Last night hubby was stopped by the cops coming back from the corner store. lol They are still looking for the trouble maker from Sunday nite. Bald and hubby has hair. Luckily the cop from Sunday night stopped and told the other cop he's fine, and asked if we ever saw anything else. So hubby told him what else we knew. It was funny, but a relief to know they are patrolling around here still.

It is so much better to feel safe than to be scared.. I do know that I would have been very scared it this had of happened to me.. I wish you luck in getting this resolved.. I do not like trouble makers, I love my peace and quiet.. I am so thankful for my neighbors, they are great and oh, so, quiet.. Have a great day and hope your troubles are over.. Donna

Since your hubby saw a van with some guys in it, I'm betting they were checking to see if anyone was home so they could break in and take off with some of your stuff. Noone can even walk by our house let alone come in the yard/drive with my dog here. He hears everything and starts barking if he thinks someone is threating us.

Thank you to you both. I am very lucky he is down the street. We want to move, but I don't want to loose the security of him being so close for something like that. Hugs back

I was. It was almost like they saw me get up go to the window and then sit back down. No sooner that I would sit back down, they would knock again. It was very freaky. Oh and more suspicious stuff going on....today we saw one of the guys from that trailer. Parked car almost a half block from landladies door. When hubby and I got by her door, to go to our trailer, I over heard him say his name! Not who they were looking for by the first name, but he had the same last name and he was BALD TOO!! I just want to get the heck out of here

Icy..this sounds very scary and i'm glad you didn't answer the door. I would never knock and then leave or play games unless i knew the person..but this sounds scary..glad hubby saw the Van to look for it again if this happens... Now not to be rude but could a Little person possibly have been there? I know you looked but what if someone in small stature was there? Just a possiblity! Please keep lights on by your front door

Hi Rose, No no one was there. I can see the steps, porch and the side of the porch from the window by the door, it looks right down to the ground and from the kitchen window I can see the other side of the steps, steps, porch, ground, our van, the next trailer and the driveway. I would keep the lights on if we had outside lights, but we don't. Hubby called me about an hour ago to see if all was alright. He knows what to look for and he is like an elephant, doesn't forget. He said it was like a uhaul truck, small size, but white. I thought the person might have been mexican, we are surrounded by mexican's who speak no english. Not being mean, just stating that and they are always asking about our van and if we want to sell it, he said no the driver was WHITE! So now I am wondering what the heck it was all about!

It sounds to me like they wanted to rob your home and were making sure no one was home before they entered. That's pretty scary, personally I normally don't answer the door if I am not expecting someone, but I never would if can't see who it is.

Well, if my dog would bark that would be a good thing, but he is 14 years old and doesn't bark anymore. lol He only barks at us when we leave and come back. If someone is home, he is like O someone's knocking OK.

I think somebody was up to no good some how but I think you did the smart thing. I always look out the window before i answer the door and I teach my children that too because in todays world you just never know. I think I would have reported it to the police though, maybe they would patrol the area. It's nice that your husband lives so close that he can come to the rescue quickly.

Yeah it's ashame that you can't even fell safe in your own home anymore, I try to teach my children to be careful about strangers and who you talk to and my daughter worries me because she just talks to everybody, it scares me actually.

Were you expecting technicians to visit you that day? if not you did the right thing by not answering it, especially if you could see the entrance from your window. My neighbor knocks on my door and leaves things outside it before I get to the door. I have a peep whole so I use that all the time.

Oh Icy, how scary for you! Especially with what is going on in your area... :( When I knock on someone's door I stand in front of it, knock hard (I have a little rythum that I beat out, so they know it's me anyway!), then I wait a bit do it again - still standing right in front of the door. And if they don't answer the second knock I start to walk slowly away. Slowly enough so that if they have been doing something else and have only heard the second knock or have only had time to get to the door then I have time to rush back to the front door. This sounds more like a prank to me and especially if they didn't stop for your hubby. You did right to ring him. It is better to be safe than sorry. I hope it hasn't happened again! Be careful honey, we are with you.
