The Borrowers... - The Borrowers...

I have a series of books called The Borrowers. There are 5 in the set and they are about the adventures of a family of little ppl. The books are great and I’ve read them dozens of times. There was also a movie by the same title. I like the books better but I first learned about them from an old movie on Turner Classic Movies. They live under the floorboards, in an old boot, an old teakettle, a miniature village and finally under a windowseat in an old rectory. In the books they move a lot for fear of being “seen” and caught. There are some ppl in the books that try to help them and care for them. There are others that want to cage them and charge ppl to look at them. They survive on the scraps and small items that humans toss aside. A safety pin, opened and with a piece of string tied to it, makes a climbing rope to get up and down curtains and tablecloths. A thimble makes a largish cup. Clothes are made out of lost gloves, hankies and socks. It’s really amazing when you read about it. In the book it says they tend to stick to houses with no pets and no small children. They like homes that are on routines and have lots of nooks and crannies to hide out in. I think if I ever found these little ppl in our house I’d have built a grand house for them and let them live out their lives if that’s what they wanted. I’d have to keep Morgana away from them…she’d think they were a snack. If I woke up like this one morning I’d hope that Hubby or another family member would care for me. If I had to stay hidden though…I’d hide out in my oldest Brothers house or my Mom’s b/c my oldest Brother has tons of snacks and candy all around his house b/c of the kids and he never gets rid of it. He also has no pets inside. My Mom is forever stashing bags of chips, cookies and leaving food out on the table even if it’s covered. I wouldn’t starve in either house…although my Mom has 3 pets indoors. I’m wondering what you would do if you ever found little ppl living in your house? Would you pretend they weren’t there so they wouldn’t leave, try to befriend them or try to make a profit off them? What if you woke up one morning to find yourself less then 6” tall? Where would you hide out in your house? Where would be the best place for you to hide out? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Oh, I loved these books. Although the last one I read ended with them finding the minature village. That would be the perfect place for them. Other little people could come live there and be safe and happy. So, I would build a minature village for them and tell them to bring all their friends to come live there. It was all be safe and private.

If I were that little I would have to hide upstairs, because the cats are not allowed up. There are little crannies everywhere in my house and furniture, because it is old. I would fit in well because I can imagine the uses for the things I would find. I have read one or two of the books, and seen an animated version.

well barring that I am not schizophrenic and the little people really exist, I think I would love it, I always wanted servants lol, but seriously I always liked people doing things for me all my life. They would also be people to talk to and keep me company and I would certainly love that.

Well I never read the books but I did see the old movie with Eddie Albert and of course the remake. I thought the newer version was much better to be honest. I really need to get a copy of that movie because I did enjoy it but haven't seen it in a while. I don't know what I'd do if I found out for sure I had them living here. I sometimes wonder though when things go missing I think I would try to make sure that my cats left them alone and the dog for that matter. I wouldn't want the pets to try and use them as toys after all. Oh if I suddenly woke up and I was only six inches I'd be in trouble. I doubt I could make it to anyone else's house so I'd be stuck here. I would probably be able to find enough things to eat but boy would it be a struggle. We don't have floor boards, it's concrete slab under our house so I couldn't hide under there. There are other places though like backs of closets. I could make a good size home in the side of the linen closet where it's hard to reach. Make up a nice soft bed with the cloth napkins. That works for me. Of course watching tv would be like going to a drive-in. A 14 inch tv would seem huge at that point.

I have read this books as a child and just loved them. I have only been disappointed with any of the movie versions. Anyway if I found them in my house I would be doing anything and everything I could to keep them there! You know leave them out their favorite food, leave scraps of material for clothes, and so forth. As for where I would live if I woke up that small, well my house is probably fine for finding food but I have a dog and I am not sure if there would really be enough hiding places.

I remember reading those books. They are very imaginative and enjoyable for children to read. I think it would be exciting to be one of the little people and to live on what I could find but it would be a very dangerous life with all the big cats and dogs sniffing me out and trying to catch me. Full size people would be a threat too. If I found the little people I would not exploit them for money I would do what I could to help them by giving them things and provide them with food and water.

I've never read the books but I took my daughter to see the movie when it was in theaters and she just loved it. When I told her about the cartoon "The Littles", she immediately wanted to know when they were on. We both love the cartoon as well. If I discovered lil ppl in my house, I would figure out where they come out at and leave bits of food for them and some odds and ends they could use to make stuff with. Since I have animals, I would definately put these items in a cupboard or somewhere the animals can't get to them when they come get the stuff. I would protect them best I could. I pray this never happens to me but if I was to wake up and discover I'm a wee person myself...honestly, I don't know what I would do. lol I do know the best place in the house to hide out at would be under the sink or even in the crawlspace. Unlike most crawlspaces, ours is clean and actually quite warm and we seldom go in it.

I think that it would be amazing to find these type of people. I don't think that they would go near my house because I have pets ,but it would be nice to protect them ,so they could have a happy life. If I was so small like that it would be a challenge to survive everyday due to so many dangers. Maybe I would go inside a house and hide inside the closets.

I loved those books! I read each and every one of them back in the third grade! I read a few series of books throughout the year. IT was great for the imagination! It made me who I am today!

If I ever found "little People" living in my house and they might have been, (it would account for all of the small things that I can never find) I would make sure they were taken care, fed and left alone.. But if I were a "little people", I am not sure where I would stay but not at my house because of my dog.. My dog would think I was her plaything and probably kill me playing with me.. I really do not know where I would want to stay if I were that little, I just hope I never find out.. I am so glad that you have it worked out, I may just come to your mom's or older brothers house, sounds cool and I would not starve either..

This would be fun, to find little people living in my house. I would have places they could be without being harmed a cozy niche with all sorts of things they could use to furnish their home and snacks to eat. I have pets but they are mostly out doors. I would be kind to them and keep them safe.

I thought these were nice books and enjoyed them. I would pretend the little people weren't there. I would leave small things around for them to make use of. I would feel honored that they chose my house to come live at. It would freak me out at first if I woke up one morning and I was 6" tall. I would fix up a place in one of my closets in the computer room. There is one in there that is not used. So what perfect place to hide out where I would not be bothered.

I loved those books, I would love to find some Borrowers in my house, not that they'd make it here with all my cats. Also, my house is too new and on a slab so its not Borrower friendly. And 2 of my favorite writers were right there together, Alice Mary Norton and Andre Norton.

I remember this series from when I was a kid. I think when I was young, I kind of wished that I could be as small as them, and live in tiny places. :) I wouldn't mind having some Borrowers living in my house--it would be fun to see what they did with all of the toys we have on our shelves. :)

If I found some little people in my house I would invite them to live with me in harmony! I probably would buy a little doll house with little furniture for them so they could have their very own space. In my house the best place to hide out would be in my hallway closet. I hardly ever go into it! Someone might be hiding there right now! LOL

Oh I love the Borrowers, I also have the book..I don't know if we have it here or packed away, but I wouldn't mind reading it again.. If I found little people like that living in my home, I wouldn't mind, as long as they asked before borrowing.. I thought the different things like the empty spool of thread as a table was really cool..
