Have you ever gone looking for something that is no longer sold anywhere? This happens to me so many times. I told my daughter if she ever came accross an eye glass case with the snap on the top to pick on up for me and she said she would. Well knowing her she probably looked everywhere and one day she said to me, Oh mother you asked me to look for somethiong they quit making in the 30's. Well sure enough no one knew what I was talking about when I asked for a leather case that has a clasp at the top. Then I've looked everywhere for a wooden cutlery tray you place on a cupboard or table that has a divide in the middle and forks goes on one side and knifes on the other. Well low and behold I guess they went out when the Titanic sunk, I don't know. Does this happen in your world?

all I can think of is how I loved the boxes of powder with the puff and I can't find them around here anymore.

This usualy only happenbs to me at the grocery, notices tha certain food items are no longer sold. It makes it hard because I then have to adjust my list on the spot. God forbid I not get something my sons put on the list or i'll never hear the end of it.

Do you know where to look for that sort of stuff...in thrift stores or 2nd hand shops. I've been looking for a hand rotary beater. If you can find one in the shops they fall apart if you look sideways at them. My Dad has one and it's older than I am.. I scan the shelves in the thrift shops with hawk like eyes on the lookout for a rotary beater.

I have seen such eyeglass cases at resale shops, auctions and the like. Most recently I have been looking for double edged razor blades.. I found a source online but it is really expensive. I was hoping for 30cents a box but it is more like $5. walmart does not sale them, the hardware store does not sale them, dollar general does not sale them... I finally found some at a little grocery store, but they were the wrong size.

Yes, it is rather infuriating. Eventually, though, in most cases something comes along e ventually that is even better. Change is a challenge sometimes, but inevitable.

Okay, I have a theory of my own. Based on personal experiences, I have found that every time I find the perfect 'something', they don't make it anymore. for example: I can't find my favorite jeans on line or off. They stopped making them. When something old breaks, I cringe, knowing I will have to buy something new. Things are made to break and be replaced. We live in a disposable world. So, they have to get rid of the good stuff because it doesn't fit in with the master plan of destruction.

yes I had a lamp in the hall that looked like an old fashioned oil lamp , I looked for a new shade for it when Ross accidentally broke it , I have now put the lamp in the bin , I hope I don't find a shade now lol xxx

I would be happy if they would just continue making the things we got used to years ago and quit coming up with 15 different types of each product. You can't even go buy coffee anymore without having to read each and every container to be sure you don't grab one with some foreign crap in it. I remember when there was one type of item for each product. Shopping was easier then.

I do that from time to time, but just you wait, they will come back at some time on the principle of "Everything old is new again." I think the eyeglass case, and the cutlery tray might be available through some mail order catalog, the glasses case might come as part of a cosmetic bag and wallet set--Lillian Vernon or some other gift catalog. I would check the Old Vermont Store catalog for anything wooden. I bet that would be the only way you would find them.

I know just what you mean ..It seems when I really really like something they either quit selling it or they discontinue it...I did see a wooden cutltry tray at walmart though..I saw 2 of them in Porter Texas Walmart, when i saw it i was shocked because when i saw it i thought that it was odd because i had never seen one in a store before...but i had seen one in my husbands "grandma"s" things, which these things are old old things....I might go back and get it now, since you have said that they are not to be found anymore...

I have had that happen several times. Then again I have also seen things come back that were popular 30-40 years ago. You know the old saying everything old is new again. But what really ticks me off is when I buy something at a store and cant get replacement parts. WalMart is bad about this. You find something and then you cant get it again. I bought a name brand coffee pot there one time and later accidentally broke the caraffe. When I went to get a new one the did not have any for that model pot. Grr...

Once in a while! Like I used to buy these nylons that wore like iron! You could wear them and wear them and they would never run....and they quit making them. I suppose they weren't selling enough...this also happens with grocery items....like whip and chill....I guess someone told me you could find it by special ordering it from this place that does have them in stock but it would be so expensive that it wouldn't be worth the shipping!
