No, I can't build a house. Carpentry doesn't mean just building a house. It could be as simple as fixing a broken door, making a small table and stuff like that. I am not that good but at least I can do minor fixing in the house as long as I have the necessary tools.

Ohmybuddha! building a house requires a great skill and years of practice. Maybe a doghouse, why not?

It fascinates me and I love to do some of the things myself if only I have the right tools. I would love to make my own tables and even cabinets. Sort of making it into a hobby. Maybe someday, I would get around to doing it. I have thought about carpentry a lot of times. For now I just consign myself to hammering what is there to hammer at home and doing minor things that doesn't take much skill.

Carpentry tools are my favorite tools. You know there is always something to fix in the house and it would be handy to have even the most basic such as a hammer and a nail. I haven't made a cabinet myself but I have made a table as a keyboard stand and I was so pleased with my work.

That is indeed very good of you. I plan to make my own cute computer table. I will really give my best shot. The computer table that I find in the store are way too big. I will make one that would just fit right for my room and with lots of places to hold things.

Good idea. I think I need to make one myself too. Right now PC set has 3 desks--one for each--monitor, CPU, keyboard. And the mouse is on top of the cd rack! it's really a mess here. The thing is I don't know where to get cheap woods here in our place.

I enjoy working with wood also. The hammer is a great way to burn off steam, as when I'm finished no longer mad. Glad to find somebody else likes to build things.

Haha!! You just gave me an idea. I sometimes have a problem dealing with my anger and I think hammer and nail will come in handy, thank you for the tip. Anyway, thanks for sharing your input here.

I don't have a talent in carpentry but i admire carpenters because without them we don't have a home. Good thing you know something about carpentry. When i was in grade school i learned to build this small chair and after that my skill have been not develop. Maybe i should try sometimes.

I love the feeling of satisfaction after creating something like a door or a simple table. It's really a worthwhile hobby.

I love the smell of fresh wood when it's getting cut or sanded. I like to work with wood too, but I'm not so good at it.

I'm not so good either. At least I can make a table in its very basic form. I still have to learn a lot. I love the feeling of accomplishing something after painting the wall or when I have connected two pieces of timber together, that's sort of thing is what really fascinates me the most in carpentry.

Carpentry also interests me but unlike you, I don't know anyone who could atleast teach me the basics. I've experienced using hammer and nails during volunteer work but I'd usually have someone to tell what I should do exactly. I've been looking for classes and stuff but I can't seem to find any in my area.

I was lucky to have a carpenter father. I learned just by watching him work in his shop. If you see some shops that make frames for pictures or cross stitches, you can watch them make one and you will learn.

Yeah, I wish they'd allow me to watch. I'm volunteering for building homes for the homeless and hoping I'd improve on my carpentry skills.

That's great if you're volunteering on building homes. At least you are doing the job. Don't be afraid to utilize those carpenter's tools. Practice on the small bits of woods and sooner or later you will find yourself good in carpentry. Just avoid getting your hands hammered.

wow that is so wonderful, I cannot to anything really with my hands, I am just so clumsy. I would probably bang my finger with the hammer. Yesterday I spilled hot soup on my hand.

Talking about clumsiness..count me in. I always hit my hand onto something when I'm reaching out for anything. Some may find me lousy or lazy in the kitchen but put me in carpentry works and I'll show what I got.

Me too, I like that stuff. I am not a carpenters daughter but I like to do carpentry works. I have a complete tools at home, hammer, screw driver, all sizes of nails, brushes, saw. I like to tinker with varnish. In fact when our chair got out of order, I fixed it, in fact if I am still young I will go on woodworking business, how I wish, but I am quite old, but I still can use that hamer and nail around.

Wow! You sure are good at it I believe. To have a complete carpentry tool at home is something remarkable. You never know when there's something to fix in the house and having those tools at home is very, very handy.
