Years ago I went to a family get together and they had the neatest looking fruit basket. It was a huge watermelon that had been cut on one side and hollowed out. Then it was filled with all kinds of fruit…watermelon chunks, cantaloupe chunks, grapes, pineapple chunks and strawberries. It was great. I’d never seen one before. Since watermelons are one of my favorite summer fruits this memory has always stuck with me. I’ve seen them get more common and more elaborate since then but haven’t attempted to make one yet. Have you seen them before? Have you ever made one? Would you attempt it? Do you make an unusual summer treat? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I love watermelon and lots of other fruits too - I think this basket sounds like a terrific idea! I am definitely going to attempt this over the summer with all those you mentioned and maybe some mangoes and good old fashioned apples, pears and bananas - I know the kids would love it too! Pretty , healthy and refreshing in the hot weather! xxx

Well, I enjoy eating mangos in the summer ,so usually around this time they start selling mangos at the supermarket ,so I can't wait until mangos are available. Is messy ,but delicious.

I was just like you the first time I saw one and rushed home to make my own and served it up to some friends, but I must say they were underwhelmed. Oh, yes, they gobbled down the food, but I guess my "crowd" at that time just wasn't into fancy food. That was a long time ago. Hubby doesn't like fancy food either. He is the ketchup bottle on the table sort of guy. Actually, we don't even buy ketchup, but you know what I mean. Love your kitty, by the way. That is a keeper.

Yes, I've made them many times, they are really fun to serve at barbecues and picnics. I also do the same thing with fresh pineapples and fill each half with fruits or a coleslaw.

Oh yes, my sister and mother have been making them since the 70's. Every summer the put on the display for barbeques and picnics. I never did one because we are only two here and it is just too much fruit for us.

That sounds like a cute idea. I have never seen one but in the summer I think it would make a good centerpiece for a summer outdoor table or maybe even inside. I dont know if I could make one. I love fruit and I think with all the colorful fruit it would look really nice. But right now with the cost of fruit getting higher every day I would think it would be kind of expensive to make one.

Oh yes, I have seen many watermelon baskets. My sister is the queen of watermelon so we have it at every get together. I have to bring fresh fruit to a shower this month and was thinking of making a watermelon basket. The only thing is I have heard people complain that they don't like the dfferent kinds of fruits mixed together. I think they look great and might just give it a try.

I remember the first time I saw one of those, I thought what a great idea..But I didn't make one until last year and it was fun to make..Of course if after the party it still had fruit inside, you want to remove the fruit and store it in another container, because leaving it in the watermelon will make it start to go faster..

Yes I do make them many times and I make lots of other interesting things out of fruits and vegetables. Swan apple, tomato (peel) rose, egg pinguin, egg and tomato mushroom, strawberry roses, orange baskets and many other things.

I have seen them before, but I have never made one. I think they are pretty cool, but I do not have the patience to make one. It looks like it takes a long time to make.

Yes ~ I have seen several of these. My aunt has been making them since I was a child. She brings them to all the reunions and any other "summer parties" we have. I love them- I love fresh fruit. They are pretty expensive to make- think of how expensive fruit is. I bring fresh fruit and veggies to almost all parties as well- but I don't make the basket- No patience for it. It takes a lot of patience to cut out the watermelon like that with a handle and all-

I have seen these and think that they look like they would be very good. I haven't tried to make one because it looks like it would take a good piece of time and I don't have the patience it looks like it would take to make one. I don't make any unusual summer treat.

What a creative way to present a fruit salad. And talk about saving on the washing up! lol. My unusual summer treat is lots of ice in cup, with pure cordial poured over the top. Yum! lol. I eat the ice pretty slowly and it usually melts quickly. By the end, the cordial is much weaker and ready to drink.

I have seen watermelon baskets. They are not common to see though. I have never made one but would like to some day. I think it would be a lot of fun to do. My Four year old would probably love to help make it too.
