I live in the UK and my experience here is that doctors are totally against giving sleeping pills to adults, i have asked for some on occasions and was told under no uncertain terms that they can become addictive and they did not want to give them to me. So i very much doubt that any medically qualified person would prescribe or even recomend sleeping pills for a child of that age. I think you need to bring light to the situation by seeking some profesional advice before this poor child becomes ill or worse.

I do know that in the usa a child as young as 5 can get sleeping pills from a shrink or sych doctor however, they spend much time alone with the child to figure out why they are not sleeping at night night and alot of times they find that the child also has axiety problem that keep them from falling asleep. My next door lady has her child on them and she is 6, they found that her brain just dont shut down at night due to her mothers unhealthy life style. Kids worry just as much as their parents do about personal life strougles. I do think that because she is giving her 5 yr old meds that early at night with out any info on the bottle, there is something not right and it needs to be looked into, just as much as a parent giving a child benadryl (over the counter med) cause is helps a child get sleepy and some times nocks them out 20 minutes after they take it and they have to be woke up the next morning. A daycare provider in brooklyn center, mn actualy used benadryl on her daycare children so they would take long naps after breakfast get up in time for a late lunch then the mothers would be showing up to pick them up. sShe endeed up killing a baby from over dosing her and thats how the state found out she had been doing it for years. Proud to say she is now caring only for her self and probably a few other inmate friends in prison!

For me, it is not good to give a child a sleeping pills. I mean, I struggle from my sleep and my doctor won't give me one since she told me that i would soon adopt the new sleeping schedule since my body clock changed. So, for a kid, I don't see any reason to take that sleeping pills unless it is really recommended by a specialist. Maybe you need to talk to your ex-friend or ask who is the doctor so that you can be sure of that...

she said she got a drs excuse but when we look at the medicine bottle there is nothing on bottle she took the label off As far as I'm concerned...she's FULL OF CRAP!! and I think that in order to protect those kids Childrens Services should be informed of whats possibly goin on...If she is giving these kids UNPRESCRIBED ADULT medicine she could end up killing them or cause severe damage...I personally wouldnt take it lightly..but first I'd want to know WHAT she is giving them.. She says she has a Drs permission so find otu 'WHAT' the doc supposedly prescribed for her children and "WHY"..if she wont tell you that I'd secretly take one of the pills, take it to a pharmacy and ask them #1 what is it and #2 is it commonly prescribed to children and #3 if NOT if an adult were regularly giving this to kids what culd be the outcome..Once you have that info I would do something about this..thats a nasty, dangerous game for her to be playing if that is in fact what she's doing..

Is the child on ADD or ADHD medicine? Some doctors do prescribe sleeping pills for children with ADD or ADHD because some children have trouble falling asleep at night because of the medication they are taking for their ADD or ADHD.

its so sad that this person is trying to destroy these kids, naturally taking sleeping pills kills the memory of young kids so i wonder if she was planning to make or create a set of morons out of her own kids,i think there is a need to visit that Doctor to find out if this is true,in my country giving kids sleeping pills is discouraged unless it is importance or unavoidable, but in this case the father must intensify efforts to get his kids with every proof that he is capable to take care of them and also prove that the woman is doing that to the kids

I am in the UK so things may be different here, but when my son was small, that was many years ago,he was such a bad sleeper,he used to never want to sleep,of course that had an effect on me because i couldnt sleep very much either. Then my daughters came along and the problem was still going on,and the doctor suggested giving him a sedative at night just to send him off to sleep so that i could get some rest.Well we gave it to him for one night and the next morning blesss him,he was like a little zombie,he just couldnt wake up..so that was the end of it,and he never was given it again.

Your job is to report this to DHS... so I would make that phone call ASAP... I never knew a doctor to give a child sleeping pills... I have a child that has a sleeping disorder and wont sleep at all hardly and they wont even think twice of putting my child on sleeping medication... and I wouldn't want that either... there are other ways to deal with situations like this... But I do feel for the children you are speaking about... I would report it, because it's our job to keep children safe... A phone call wouldn't hurt... you could explain just how you explained here...

God, that is horrible, how could you even think of that. i think that women is not a very nice persoe if she is doing this. i really do not understand why the court would do that. hey is there no way the father could appeal to the court to get a blood test done on the child to see if sleeping pills are been given. no way should anyone give a child a sleeping pill. it would def have a effect on the child later on.i am sorry to hear this and i wish the father gets custody soon.

Giving a five year old sleeping pills? The thought alone is enough to make me cringe. But, to do it because you don't want to deal with a child? That's abuse. I hope the child gains the rights with her father. I really wish him and the child well.

I doubt a doctor would prescribe them to a child unless they had really really sever sleeping problems as in they never sleep etc. I am assuming that is not the case, so she shouldn't be doing it, it will probably cause them a lot of harm in the long run.

I think any medication for a child that young is horrible - sleeping pills are definately horrible. That is something the father should bring up with the court and have the kids testify. That along with anti depressants are just horrible and unjust. She is creating an addiction and it's not fair to the child or healthy for the child.

Even doctors prescribe us,adults, to avoid sedatives or sleeping pills, if they prescribe, then too in a very small quantity. It will be dangerous for that little kid, who is given such pills. Her guardian should try to avoid giving her sleeping pills,as early as possile. Its terrible!!

I really believe that some people should not have children. For some reason some women just are not born with any motherly instinct whatsoever. I bet if he told her she could have alemony for a year she would jump at that! I know of a five year old who is on medication for anger control and it puts him to sleep. So--?! But, 6P is rediculous. Sad. I hope he is able to get the poor kids out of her influence SOON!

I would definitely call someone to help with this situation. i would never dream of giving a sleeping pill to a five year old. she sounds like a very strange person.

That is just a bad mother, she does not at all helping the child grow normal. I think the father should pursue for the child custody and used this issue against her. I do not think that she is a responsible mother by doing this. Unless her children has this certain health problems or is really having a hard time going to sleep.

Just check with the doctor and whatever they say is good
