A teenage boy in our town was killed in an automobile accident over the weekend. The boy was traveling with one of his friends. The passenger is in the hospital and expected to make a full recovery.
There have been many accidents involving teenagers in our state and as a mother of two boys I worry about their future driving. Should the driving age be raised? Is 16 too young to drive?
It's sad to see so many young people killed.

In my state, California, we have a lot of restrictions on teen drivers. They can't drive with anyone under 18 in their car for example, as well as other rules and restrictions about driving at night, etc.
But, there are always kids that don't follow the rules and they run into trouble. I remember one time some kids at a school that I work near got out on the freeway after school began racing each other and got into a horrible accident. Everyone was OK, though. And, I've heard of other stories about kids driving around late at night getting into trouble with bad adults on the road.
I don't know if the driving age should be raised or not. I would think that 16 is a responsible age. But, in these days, kids are less experienced with driving at that age as ever before. It used to be kids did a lot of driving on the farm by the time they were 16 and were able to handle an automobile on the road pretty well by then. Now, however, not a lot of kids are driving farm equipment around.

I think the age should be raised to 18 or 20. Because 16 year olds are just not mature enough to handle driving thats why they have so many accident and get a lot of speeding tickets. But at 18 at least there more mature well a lot of kids become more mature there will always be bad drivers no matter what age the person is. But i doubt they will raise the age to get a license.

I personally think 16 is a bit young to be driving anyway, here in the Uk you have to be 17. The leagal limit should be 18 I reckon.
Regard's to the accident. I would not beleive all the stat's and figure's the goverment release on RTA's as they clearly have an agenda against young driver's. Most young driver's are in to modded car's and often park up on carpark's to admire other car's and unfortunately you do get the odd idiot who messes about and ruin's it and then all youngser's get tarnished witht he same tag. What easier way to cut the illegal cruise's than by banning young people from the road. From my own personall expierence, I have been driving for about 10 year's now and it is the old people who cause accident's. Most have poor eyesight, sit so close to the steering wheel that even a slight knock and their head's would be through the windscreen and just generally are so poor at driving, even though they may have been driving all their live's.
Well that's my take on thing's anyway.
