Wouldn't you love to find buried treasure? I have wondered about buried pirates treasurs and if they truely exist. lol As a kid I watched the goonies and really thought that it would be so awesome to find something like that. And well, someone did in South Africa. Article: De Beers geologists discover treasure including gold coins off Namibia JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - The ship was laden with tons of copper ingots, elephant tusks, gold coins — and cannons to fend off pirates. But it had nothing to protect it from the fierce weather off a particularly bleak stretch of inhospitable African coast, and it sank 500 years ago. Now it has been found, stumbled upon by De Beers geologists prospecting for diamonds off Namibia. For picture and the rest of the story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24409867>1=43001

I have always dreamed of prospecting for gold, I would love to go to an area where there was gold and sieve through searching for gold nuggets and knowing whatever you found you kept! I would't want to dive into the ocean to find treasure, because you don't know what's down there, sharks and poisonous jellyfish etc... People have found buried treasure whilst digging, but the only thing is if that land belongs to someone else, then they are entitled to get the proceeds from the treasure! I liked Disney's Candleshoe when they found gold hidden inside the house! Brilliant film if you like stories about finding treasure and Gold!

Hi icy-that is fantastic-there have been other shipwrecks founf with gpld etc and I remember one article saying that the people kept the gold but were caught up by the goverment and they had to give it to them so it could be put in musesums and belonged to the queen or something like that-apparently it is illegal to keep any of the treasure that is found-shame otherwise there would be a few more people who could be helped with that money. The article you have discussed on though is amazing-it just makes you wonder how many more are under the sea laden with valuables like that-blessings littleowl

That's really neat. There are people who spend all of their time searching for sunken ships and treasure...I forget what they're called, but it is pretty serious business.

Now that is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.. Talk about good fortune.. But it will probably cost a fortune to recover it.. That would be so awesome..

Oh I wish I did too. Surely no one would miss a gold coin or two? I love reading these stories. Besides the treasures, they reveal a bit of the history of time. What was important, how sailors lived on board ship, etc.
