Long Time No See!

My best friend came from Germany to visit me and we had not seen each other for 31 years. I only recognised here because we had shared photos over the years she looked just like her mother did years ago. She recognized me and said apart from a bunch of wrinkle and silver hair I had not changed. My hair now naturally looks like the silver blond color I used to dye it. She looked so different because she used to have long dark hair, now her hair is short she and is also getting gray. It was amazing how we immediately picked up where we had left off all those years ago. To say the least we talked non stop the first day, looked at dozens of photos, did some sightseeing, River Street in Savannah (there was an Arts Festival going on), the beach at Tybee Island, my favorite restaurants and hangouts. She was only here for 6 days and it was very nostalgic. She left this morning amid tears as we knew we would never see each other again but of course will always keep up out email and telephone contact. Have you ever met a friend again after not seeing one and other for a long time? Was it a shock, easy or awkward?

oh wow. im touched by your story. 31 years of not seeing each other is quite a long long time. how did you feel on your 1st meeting again? was it awkward? ive never experienced this yet being my friends are still around me and etc. but if i had a friend that i havent seen for a very long time i will surely invite her over to my house no questions ask and also reminisce lol... i also made a discussion on a topic of friends who lives in far places. if your best friend would move out would you still call her a best friend if you found a new one and etc. but it seems your friendship seemed to last long and you still call her best friend. thats nice. may your friendship grow more and more :)

I do have a "best" friend like that. She lives in Florida now, and I live in Oregon. She doesn't travel, and I haven't seen her in about 15 years now. I miss her terribly. In our relationship she is the one that hasn't changed in appearance. I don't think she will ever look old, lol. We keep in contact via phone and email, but not as often as I'd like. She is very busy, and so am I. Our lives seem to parallel each others though. It's funny. Whenever we talk, it's like we haven't been apart. BTW, I love Tybee Island. That was the first place I ever swam in the ocean. I'm really sorry the trip was short and you feel you will never see her again. Don't give up, maybe you will one day take a trip to Germany. Nostalga is a wonderous feeling. Hugs.

I have a friend or two I try to keep up with, but all I get is forwarded e-mail, not really anything of substance. It does feel weird if we get to see each other. I have reconnected at college reunions, and again, it feels very strange. Some of those people have gotten OLD! but I certainly have not.

I am so happy you have had such a great visit with your friend. From time to time I run into someone from the past...Like at Jason's wake I saw a woman and although I had not seen her since she was 7 or 8 years old I knew just who she must be. I walked up to her and introduced myself and she knew who I was..she said her mother speaks fondly of me all the time. I was the little sister of her mother's high school best friend and I had even babysat her once or twice! She looks so like her father but with her mother's eyes. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Its a great feeling to have met and see your friend after such a very long time. I had also the chance to meet some of my college friends whom I did not see after our college life more than 26 years ago, through a college friend whom I had communication for the previous years. That friend was the one who set a date for us to meet have a reunion. Its a great feeling to see them after long years. Some look so different from before, but the others look almost the same when we were in college except for some few gray hair. We reminisce the past happy college days that we had and we've also talked and shared our family life and experiences.

It is so hard to part with friends, just about all my schools friends have moved away, I just have one or two left here in montreal and they were not the closest friends, the closest ones left and then we were no longer in touch after a while.

yes i have met a friend of mine after three years. She went abroad for studies and returned after three years. Initially it was very awkward for me to communicate , but soon we were chatting like we were best friends. She also got some chocolates for me and we went out to a restaurant for dinner and some shopping. ~Pinks~

Yes, I have seen an old friend that I didn't see for 10 years. She came to my baby shower and when I first saw her come through the door I thought it was a different old friend! I quickly realized it was her though. Not only was it a shock it was awkward too. We barely got to talk that day, nor did I know what to say to her. Sadly we haven't seen each other since, though we have communicated by email. Unfortunately the last email was about 2 years ago. I guess we just drifted apart.

I wonder if you could belive this. There is a family friend of mine. When we were kids, her family and my family used to stay in the same city. We would go out together, either be it trips, tours or family functions. They would come to our home for dinner and sometimes we would be invited. But then her father got a transfer and her family movied to a differnt city. After almost 15 years, on the occasion of my brother's mariage last year, i saw her family came over to our place to attend the wedding.I even got surprised because even her sister had turned out to be 15 but she did not came to the wedding. Then after a few days, i was surprised to see an unknown person contact me on Orkut. To my surprise, it was her. Yeah she found me on orkut and then after a long time, we got in touch, had a long conversation and finally we know each other more. I haven't seen her yet in person but yeah we have shared our pics.. So isint it a really LONG TIME NO SEE !!

That must have been a wonderful visit sweetheart but a bittersweet goodbye! You never know what is around the corner though , you may get to see each other again further down the line. I have met up with friends that I hadn't seen in a couple of years but none that were that long spaced out though! xxx

I have relatives in Finland that I seldom see, and it is usually awkward because of language, even though she does speak English she does not speak correctly in the sense that the adverbs and adjectives are sometimes in the wrong place. She has to think what she wants to say in Finnish then translate it and it sometimes isn't quite right...lol. I have another friend that I made in the internet and we are very close. We chat everyday and talk on the phone sometimes, we have never met though and we are hoping to fix that soon. I know that meeting won't be in the least awkward, we are close enough to be family.
