I try to crochet baby afghans for new babies for the baby showers. I also crochet prayer shawls that I give to those that have suffered a tremendous loss or are ill. It is such a blessing to do this. Do you crochet? If so, what patterns are your favorite I love getting new ideas on new patterns. Tell me your story of giving your hand crocheted items as gifts.\

For baby afghans I like using the granny square. I just make one big granny square, and thus I don't have to worry about the ends not being uneven. I recently made two for my granddaughter that was born last September. I also crochet her a dress and if I had time I would include a pic here, but at work, so maybe another time. I am crocheting a christening dress, though she has already out grown it, I will probably frame it for her, it is crocheted with thread and very delicate! I've never made a prayer shawl but that would be something that would be nice to do.

The prayer shawls are great! Most of the time I crochet I am praying for whoever it is going to. The Lord knows who will get it. Then the prayer shawl is so comforting to cuddle with during suffering illnes or loss or other tragedies. I have had people to tell me they really appreciated them. They are a blessing to make.

I do crochet, but generally I just do straight crochet as I am working on a very large project. I am crocheting circles that I am sewing together into a couch cover. But, I often pick out crochet from different books such as the Better Homes and Garden Crochet book. I know it's an old book, but it has a lot of classic ideas on things like rugs, tableclothes, and other household items.

Wow! You do have a large project going. I would love to see a picture of it when you get it completed. Are you making the circles and then sewing them together or crocheting them together? Thanks for your post.

Right now I am just starting out on crochet, but I enjoy patterns such as flowers, for afgans, for granny squares, and also for bookmarks and fridgies!
