Danger: Mulled green fairy liquid....

May 7, 2008 4:26pm CST
Two women suffered serious burns to their mouths and throats after a cafe mistakenly served dishwashing liquid instead of mulled wine. The accident in New Zealand occured after 20 litres (5.2 gallons) of sodium hydroxide was delivered to a Queenstown's cafe in a container marked Mountain Thunder (a popular local tipple). A court was told yesterday that customer Sarah had to go to hospital after spitting out her order. Waitress Bethany then offered to test the drink and suffered scarring to her oesophagus because of the chemical mix. The cafe owners face a possible fine over the incident. Should the owners be be fined?? What about the people who delivered the sodium hydroxide in a drinks container?? Whats your views on this??

What will likely happen is that the cafe will be sued by the waitress and the customer, and then the cafe can turn around and sue the delivery company, and recoup their damages.

Should the owners of the people who delivered the drink container be fined? That's a good question. I feel that it is the responsibility of the owners to know what they are serving their customers, but then again it is the responsibility of the company that does the delivery to give the place the right product. I really don't know who should get fined! Maybe both?
