I have two breeds, Siamese and Maine Koon. I am very partial to Siamese. They are social and very loving. I have had them since I was a kid and have always been very attached to the breed. I became acquainted with the Maine Koon cat by accident when I was given one to find it a new home. It never left my house. He had wormed his furry self into my heart. Maine Koon cats are a long haired breed and highly intelligent. All the books I've read on the Maine Koon state that the male Maine Koon is a "ding a ling" and very entertaining and different. If you want a very proper cat, the female Maine Koon is a proper cat who has her definite ideas of right and wrong. They are very gentle and great with children and are sweet tempered. The Siamese is a "chatty" cat that will come to you and will talk to you at length. They are a bit wild in their infancy but if you play with them and exercise them a lot they won't be a handful. But of course all kittens are a bit wild. The Siamese was originally a temple cat in Thailand and they maintain their regal origins. They too are proper about how they act. They do remind me of a dog more than a cat. I have one now that follows me from room to room and walks on heel at my side. He also is a kick when he meows as he really screws up his face (Kind of like he sucked a lemon)just as he is meowing. The Siamese is also really great at hunting and will keep the mice, spiders and other critters out of your home. They are very sweet tempered and great watch cats. I don't know if this helps any, but these are the breeds that I have had experience with.

I recommend either a Bombay or a Maine Coone Cat. The former is small & cuddly, & the large Maine Coone is regal, loving, & very smart. They're both beautiful, too. BUT, having said that, the simple Domestic Shorthair is also one of the most loving & cuddly cats I've even been privileged to know, & one Tortois Shell cat I knew was so attached to me she'd follow me down the street mewing! Maggiepie P.S. MyLot won't allow me to leave the "E" off the C-word in the cat's name. Stupid program.

I love cats and have one at home. It is male and this cat is a good one. We took it in one home with some cute cats. Now, it has grown and catches mice in the house. I think that races doesn't matter much as long as they are disciplined and catches those mouse in your house that does damage to your things.
