Do you enjoy picking fleas?

I have a confession to make. I really love to sit there and pick fleas off my dog and cats. it's such a thrill to see one and chase it and finally catch it in between my fingernails! But the experience isn't complete without the final 'pop'. Squashing them between your nail and a hard surface is so fun. Especially when you actually hear the 'pop'. It sucks though when pus comes out of them.
I always thought I was a bit weird but the more I've talked about this the more I realise that lots of people enjoy picking fleas.
So are you a flea picker?

I don't...I can't stand it. My fiance however will pick the fleas off our cat. I think it is just unreal...then he will kill them by crushing them between his fingers. Oh my. Kudos to the ones who can do that. I would just give the cat a flea bath and then comb it out.

Ha yeah I can't decide which is more satisfying- squashing them between my fingernails or between my fingernail and the table!

When I had pets, then yes I did!! They can be hard to kill though sometimes, and they can make a real mess when they have just eaten! I hate being bit by them though, they can be quite mean sometimes. I am quite thankful that I do not have to put up with them anymore!

I would not like getting fleas off of my dog. I hate getting ticks off also. I always use a flea collar on my dog so I don't have to worry about getting the fleas and ticks off of him with my fingernails.. I would rather try to get a flea off of him though instead of a tick. I hate ticks. I get them off of his and then they want to stick to me. Yuck!

hi coffeeshot,
I love my pets dog that i don't want them to ger affected of fleas. However, i find it very unsanitary really Yakiiiii ... i patiently pick each fleas and put it in a containe with dog shampoo and burn it. I don't enjoy it. I am after the welfare of my kids. That's it.

Yes! It is sooooo fun. The run, hide, jump, but I (almost) always get em in the end. Then its SLICE through their little bodies with a thumbnail. I don't usually pop them, that's too much work. It is a little gross because they often are filled with (someone's) blood but never seemed to bother me. Such a feeling of accomplishment when the dog is all flea-free.
Now that there's frontline I don't get to do this very often anymore.
Ticks are another story, they creep me out, I won't touch 'em without a piece of TP

Oh gosh gross lol. That makes me want to gag. I hate fleas they are disgusting. I hate seeing them on animals it makes me sick ugh. When my cats were very small we found them outside our house and they were COVERED in fleas. We lived there a few months and they were covered in the fleas. We were moving out so we took them in the bathroom tub and got them all wet and covered them in hair conditioner. We used a comb to get them off and then picked the rest off them one by one. I was dry heaving it was so sick. There was so many of them that it was like covering their faces. We picked off hundreds of fleas off them. It took forever. Then we dried them off and took them to our new house. The fleas went away after that. but then my cousin brought her dog into our house one day and again we got fleas. We had to go to the vet and spend $30 on each cat to get frontline. It worked great!

I'm sorry Coffeeshot, but flea chasing wouldn't be one of my foremost hobbies! If I spot one I do chase it & capture it (so much more difficult as I've started biting my nails again), and there is pleasure in the dispatching of it in that it won't be bothering any of us any more, but I don't go searching for them.
I occassionally check the dogs over for ticks because they are the most revolting beasts ever and I just hate the thought of them being in my home. all the animals are treated against them as they're a problem here, but occassionally one manages to survive long enough to attach. Their bulbous, blood filled bodies just make me feel quite yukky, and killing them causes me no second thoughts at all. I normally grab them in a tissue so they don't explode all over my fingers if I sqeeze too hard, then flick them on top of the woodstove where they pop. Yeauch!
