would you accept a faux diamond?

i was watching a documentary earlier today on this, what with advances in artifical stones,it is now possible to make a flawless diamond, even in colors rare in nature.in some cases, unless you have the tools, laying them side by side, the eye would be hard pressed to tell the difference. now my question: what if someone wanted to give you one,for a birthday or wedding, would you want them to tell you it's lab created?would you still want it? or what if they told you it was an earth born diamond, and it turned out to be fake (meaning they lied)? me,i'd like one,but i'd rather they tell me it's lab created if it is.they're still pretty :)

I'd like to know...more because i think its neat they can create them in the labs now. I actually would prefer a sapphire over a diamond though! I'm not really a diamond girl. I'm more a white gold and pretty blue rock girl.

isn't it? the regular blue topaz is nice too,it's kind of an aquamarine color-but the deeper blue is just gorgeous.there was one on ebay not too long ago i was just drooling over, set in a silver bracelet.

Alright, I am going to go against the crowd on this one. I do not like typical things anyway, and I got very angry when one of my boyfriends bought me diamond earrings, because I knew that they were too expensive, even though he got them at a "going out of business sale" so they were marked way down. After he spent all that money on them, I felt obligated to wear them, and then I felt really awful when I lost one. So, overall I would not mind somebody getting me a "fake" diamond for a gift as long as they did not try to convince me that it was real. For my engagement ring, I did not want a diamond. I asked for a particular kind of stone, and my husband had it specially made for me, which was entirely unexpected but very much appreciated. I really was not only trying to save us money with the other stone but also I think that it is such a lovely stone. Having the ring specially made, though, and the size of the stone he picked out, I think he spent at least the same amount on it as he would have spent on a diamond, although my stone was definitely bigger than the diamond would have been. It was absolutely gorgeous! However, if he had chosen to get me a diamond for an engagement ring, then I would have wanted a real diamond not a fake one. If it was just a present, then I wouldn't mind it being fake, although I probably would want to know that it was. An engagement ring, on the other hand, is different, in my opinion. I guess that it shouldn't matter, especially since I don't usually like traditional things and would not mind a fake ring as a present for a different occasion. I just think that the engagement ring should be special and "real", although if the person can't afford a diamond, then I think that an alternative semi-precious stone would be a lovely idea.

Yeah, I kind-of got mad about the earrings, because I said that I was definitely a "cubic-zirconia type girl", especially when it comes to earrings. I lose jewelry too easily to get the "real-thing", except when it comes to rings. I have really had good luck with rings, but just about everything else, especially earrings, I have lost at least one. Since he had spent all that money, though, I did not feel right just letting them collect dust in my jewelry box, especially since I have my ears pierced multiple times. I did get a good amount of wear out of them before I lost one, but I still felt completely awful about the loss. I still wear the one that I have left, though, and I pair it with another lone earring whose mate I have lost and wear it in my top hole.

i am not much into jewellery but its rightly said ITS THOUGHTS/FEELINGS THAT COUNT,i would rather have the person to tell me directly that it is not a real diamond than be lied to.

Sure, why not? But I wouldn't want it to be passed off like it's the real thing. Because I wouldn't want to be lied to and made to look like a fool. Happy mylotting!

I don't think I'd be receiving any diamonds, but to answer your discussion here, it would be much appreciated if it's communicated that it is actually a fake diamond. I mean, no one really like non-genuine stuff, and if it's especially for a special occasion, it would be much2x appreciated to have something genuine and if not, to be told in advance that it's a faux one..

It wouldn't bother me in the least to have someone give me a lab-created stone. First of all, I'm probably the only woman on the planet that really doesn't like diamonds. Personally, I'm partial to sapphires. Secondly, I'm not the kind of woman who has to have the biggest of this, or the best of that. I'd rather have something from the heart, than something from the wallet. I think diamonds are rather boring. I like stones with some color, and now that they can create gem stones that come in a wide variety of colors, I think I'd like them more than the real thing. Of course, I'd still like to have a real sapphire, but it's not something that I'd get upset over if it was lab-created.

Personally, I would not care. It would be nice to have a real diamond but I am not going to be upset if I do not get one. I currently have a pair of earrings and my class ring, neither of which are real diamonds but that I am proud of all the same because they are pretty. As far as knowing if it was lab created or not, I really don't care. I prefer costume jewelry over expensive stuff simply because I have a bad habit of losing it =)

I also do not think it matters. I personally would not want someone spending that money on me. I would rather it go to charity. I don't like spending unecessary amounts of money when there is so much suffering in the world and people who need it more than me.

In a word....Heck YES!!! I love pretty things and having lost a diamond out of my stunning 7 diamond ring and paying $750 to replace that one diamond....well, it makes me a bit scared to wear it. I also can't afford to insure it. Wouldn't you think they would be much cheaper than the real thing? I guess they are still set in gold, silver or platinum and it must cost something to create them....but what's the point when they are still so expensive?

oh..i can feel that-one ring of mine has lost a diamond twice-it's a very old ring, and i guess the setting's messed up. i guess you can get a bigger carat with the lab created, but you're right, they're pretty expensive too.probably one of those "everybody's now buying these, let's jack the price up" type things.

sure, why not? who am I to look "a gift horse in the mouth"? though a faux diamond would not bother me, I do not care much for non precious or at least semi precious metals - so if that faux diamond comes to me on a pot metal band I might not wish to wear it. you know, when I was in 8th grade I got in HUGE trouble from my english/reading teacher when I wrote a composition and used the word Faux. He really laid into me for having used such language on a paper I turned in. Can you believe it?

i hear that.i have bad nickel allergy, has to be gold or silver or i can't wear it. oh,i can definetly believe it.i've had teachers accuse me of cheating on papers if they "didn't think i learned the word myself".uh.. usually means they don't know what it means themselves LOL.

I love those fake diamonds! Especially the good quality ones. I'd freak out if my spouse gave me a real diamond, cause I know how much they cost. I'd rather buy another computer, new car or digital camera first. We have other bills to pay. I wouldn't mind if he told me that it was fake. A nicer name like Diamonesque or Diamonique would be a good way for him to say, "Hey this honkin' diamond ain't real, y'all!" Anyway, fake is good. For diamonds anyway.

I would accept it :) They did also say that there's no lack of quality between the man-made diamond and the natural diamond. It's still diamond, it just didn't take it a thousand years to form. A ring is valuable not because it's hell expensive or because it's ancient, it's value lies in its purpose. If it was given by a lover, then it's a sign of love - be it a diamond or a free ring from a Cheerios box. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Hello there, I would accept a faux diamond. Why not? As long as it is well designed; fashionable and fit my fingers, I would like it. Sometimes, I rather have a faux one rather than a real one, as with the real one, I have to be conscious or give extra attention with it and worry it will be lost or dent while wearing it. But with the faux one, I can wear it all the time, even for washing dishes or having a shower/bath. LOL

I really don't care for diamonds, though if they can make them in colors, then yeah, I'd love to have one. :) My engagement ring doesn't even have a diamond, real or fake, on it. I specifically wanted a non-traditional engagement ring, so mine has a rounded amethyst on it. Much safer for me to not injure myself, since it's not pointy. :) And prettier too, if you ask me. :)

I love everything I get as a gift it wouldn't matter to me if it was fake or real. I wouldn't care if the person told me it was real or fake I wouldn't want to ask if they told me that would be fine it wouldn't change how I felt about it.

If I liked it, I'd be pretty pleased, real or not! These created gems can be quite expensive, but then again I was always taught that it's the thought that counts! As a wedding ring, for sure I'd take it. Most young couples will need their money to spend on necessites rather than lavish diamonds. Most of them are very pretty too, so YES I'LL TAKE IT!! Have a great day!

personally when it comes to diamonds.. id prefer the counterfiet, and would refuse a real one. i dont want to be a part of the slaughter and torture that goes into the procuring of diamonds just to have something shiny on my finger.

I don't normally wear jewelry, but would make an exception for a real diamond.. I do have a few expensive pieces that I have received as gifts from hubby over the last 40 years but it is jewelry that I wear on certain occasions only.. I wouldn't want someone to try and fool me, I would rather know the worth of something that I have received as a gift.. I would be devastated if I lost a ring with a real diamond more so than if I lost a ring with a huge CZ in it.. Also you have to know the worth if it is to be insured.. I would want someone to tell me if it was real or fake.. I could enjoy either one of them..
