I cannot believe I paid $47 to park my car in a shopping centre car park just for 4 hours. That could have bought me a whole weeks supply of meat! I could not find any other parks and I was running late for the baby Bonds competition yesterday in Brisbane. So I did not have too much of a choice. There is no free parking anywhere in Brisbane, thank goodness I don't live there. Here in the Sunshine COast I would have been able to park somewhere for free.
So what is the most money you have paid for a carpark? How do you feel about the amount of money you have to pay just to park your car?3 people like this

I don't think I've ever paid more than $5 to park, and that was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. But $47?! That's absolutely ridiculous. Are they saving up money to build a space shuttle or something? I don't see any other reason to charge THAT much for one vehicle for four hours.
With gas prices, parking meters, deck fees, and all of the other expenses, I'm starting to see the benefits of investing in a bicycle.

LOL, they would be able to have 50 space shuttles with the money they collect from the car parking. I think I need to invest in a bike myself, except that won't help when i need to take the kids around, lol.

Don't worry, not all of Australia is a rip off when it comes to parking. Depends where you find work, working in big cities you have to pay for car parking everywhere, I am sure there are cheaper parking around, I just did not look around too much. What kind of work do you do and where in Australia are you thinking of working?

that is really ridiculous... i never pay that much before for parking... it will definitely hurts if i have to pay that much just to park my car... i prefer to take public transport if that happens... the most i have to pay for parking is $16... it is $8 per hour and i stay for 2 hours... even that i already feel so expensive...

Yes I agree $16 is expensive too. The most I have ever paid before today was $5 for parking. I wish I did take public transport but it is too difficult with bubs and my 3 year old, having to cart all the stuff I need. Next time I will be shopping around for car parks. I am glad that I don't live in Brisbane I would not be able to afford to live.

Hi dear
My all sympathies are with U, i can imagine what you would be feeling. $47 is huge amount and sure u can shop a lot in it. its just wasting ur hard earn money. here in Pakistan its not that much but in Newyork its most expensive US$50 per day in some area
its really ridiculous but have no other option
once again Sorry to hear that

That's ok Cupid, I learnt a valuable lesson never to go park in Brisbane again, it is too ridiculous. I am annoyed that shops are prepared to charge such a high amount. They would be making a fortune, with their 6 levels of parking there, it was all full too.

Hi Kiran-that is scandalous! in the uk we can pay up to £5 for two hours in your money it is roughly $2-50 but $47 for 4hrs I have never heard of that-the most my son has had to pay is £5-your friend littleowl

Hi Kiran-you are right-sometimes it only costs a £1 to £1-50 which would be roughly half in your money-so that was a ridiculous amount to pay for parking-still at least its over with and hopefully you wont be put in that situation again-hugs littleowl

Yes I have never paid that much before either, I would have looked for somewhere cheaper but with the little ones in the car I did not want to walk a long way with them, so I took the carparking closest to where I needed to go. Glad you have not had to pay more then $2.50. I even think paying over $1 is expensive, we have enough things to pay for these days without worrying about paying to park our cars.

That is disgusting, I cannot believe that you had to pay that much. I know for a fact my hubby would not have paid that, he would have just driven around until he found somewhere!! We have never paid much for parking as my hubby would just not pay much and he always manages to find a good cheap car park.

Yeah i would have looked for cheaper parks but i had the baby and my 3 year old with me and I was running late for this competition so I just took the cheapest car park I could find. It definately was a rip off will never be parking there again.

Lol, I meant to say I just took the nearest carpark I could find, obviously I didn't take the cheapest.

Gees thats a bit stiff, it must do the retailers a lot of damage, I know I used to love shopping at the Melbourne Airport but I haven't been there for years because the parking fees are too expensive but I don't think they are as bad as that...

I know it is a rip off, I would have thought Melbourne would be just as expensive as Brisbane as it is a bigger City.

That's just terrible! You'd think they'd have some way to validate parking if you shop there so that people can spend more at the stores. That's how a lot of our shopping centers work. You get free parking for a few hours if you buy something in a store and get your card validated.
I try to avoid paying for parking by taking a bike or carpooling. I don't think I've paid more than $10 to park anywhere so far.

I know it is awful, they should have discount for people that shop there. They would be making a fortune with 6 levels of carparking and it was all full too.

I think it's absolutely crazy the amount of money we have to pay just to park our cars. It's almost worse than the cost of gas, insurance, maintainence, and other things. And I thought my computer was trouble!! Thank goodness for the fact that I have poor eyesight, and will never be able to drive.

Yeah I know, I actually paid more in parking yesterday then I spent in fuel, it cost me $20 in fuel to get to Brisbane and back and $47 in carparking, almost double the price. Lucky you don't have to worry about driving, fuel way too expensive now too.

OMG! It is really very atrocious to pay $47 for car partking. It must have been felt very pinching and painful to you for parting with $47 just for car parking. I have not heard about such an expensive car partking place. May be, for the next you can learn a lesson from your experience and can tell your near and dear ones that, if at all they are going to Brisbane, they should be prepared to pay $47 for car parking or else they make other alternate arrangements.
I always feel very bad, when I am required to pay hefty amoung for car partking and such amoung really pinches when I am required to park my vehicle for a very short period and there is no other alternative available. Parking is really a great problem, everywhere, I think. Here, in Delhi also, it is easier to maintain or buy a car than to park it at a convenient and safer place.

Yes I have learnt a lesson my friend I won't be doing that again, next time it would be cheaper option for me to catch a train to the city, luckily I don't go there much at all, it was just a one off. I would have looked for cheaper parking but I had the baby and my 3 year old and I did not want to make my three year old walk along way to get to where we needed to go.

it's amazing and very ridiculous. all of our shopping malls parking lot here are free, i didn't here that high cost of parking fee. i am very thankful i don't live in Australia. Maybe that's a penny for residents in your country compared to us here.

That is insane, but pretty similar to NYC prices (USD amount is not far off from AUD)...it can easily cost $40 or more to park in a garage. There are metered, and possibly free spots, but they are impossible to find. But I hate to drive there since I live in New Jersey, so I take the train in, and then subways if necessary, and it costs so much less, and eliminates the stress of driving. In NJ free parking can be found in many towns, though I have paid as much as $10 for a lot in Montclair (considering car stayed overnight not too bad), and $20 to park in Hoboken.
