Hours after Thursday's landmark ruling by the California Supreme Court striking down a state law banning gay marriage, the 50-year-old daytime host announced during a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she and the 35-year-old former Ally McBeal star plan to swap vows. In the episode scheduled to air later today, studio audience members greeted DeGeneres' news with thunderous applause and a standing ovation as De Rossi watched from the sidelines. DeGeneres said she was ready to go bridal. "I'm thrilled that the California Supreme Court overturned the ban on gay marriage," she told the magazine. "I can't wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday...not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote." DeGeneres and the Aussie actress have been together for four years. http://tv.yahoo.com/show/35584/news/urn:newsml:tv.eonline.com:20080516:75f1bc3b6bd3_479f_bd43_de7c9db7308b__ER I am happy for them. I do believe that everyone should be allowed to be happy whether they are gay or straight should not have any thing to do with it. We are all human and deserve happiness. What do you think about the news?

I thought it was a sad day in the United States when that law was struck down. I don't believe in gay marriages and I am sorry but I don't think that it should be allowed in any state. I don't think that Ellen should have annouced it on her show either as it sets her up for a lot of torment from late night talk show hosts and others who hate gays. I know that a lot of people think that this is great and I hope that you understand that I am only giving my opinion. I would never say that I hate gays or that they should hide it,but I personally don't believe in it. To each their own is a great way to look at things, but I just thought that I had to say my part.

I disagree and that is ok we all have our opinions and I respect everyone's opinions on this. I happen to know a few people who are gay and I wish I could see them get married. I don't think Ellen opened herself up for criticism, everyone already knew she was gay, only thing different is now she is getting married. I'll put it this way, Do you believe in everyone being happy? If so, then that is a good way to look at a gay marriage. This is just like the racial issues from long ago when black men would fall in love with white women, it was looked upon as a disgrace, now it is a common thing. It all comes down to who makes you happy and that should always be allowed in the world

Hi Icy.. I read this earlier and was happy for them since i know they are happy together..Hopefully they don't get any crazies after them for wanting to do this since its a private matter between them. I have friends who are gay and would love this chance but texas will probably be the last to ever do anything like this!
