I live with my boyfriend. So generally it's only the two of us eating for dinner. When he is away for work,it's only me left. Cooking for two can be difficult. Most recipes are geared toward six to eight servings. Are there any options?Yes,but just two few. I'm wondering is there options that are dead simple? Do you cook? How many members in you family for dinner?

i have 4 people here, but when a recipe is larger than i have people,i usually just make the full size anyway and just freeze it for later.makes a nice quick dinner for later on.

There are a couple of approaches to this ....either do the math and divide by the appropriate number or cook it all and freeze it til next time. Take some to a needy family or to someone that just got out of the hospital !!

The same to me. I cook for my husband and me. At first it is surely difficult to prepare for the proper amount. As time passes by, I can do it well. No extra food is wasted now. If there is some left, I will keep it in the fridge which can be take next time. Maybe there is no simple option to cope with this problem.

You could always just cut down the portions for the 6/8 servings recipes. Or you could cook it and leave the other 4/6 servings and heat them up later on in the week.

We are 9 in the house. There are sometimes that me and my wife are the only persons left. But that makes no hard for us to have dinner. You are right that it's a kinda difficult to cook for only two. So what we do is have dinner in the nearby restaurant. But it's also a kinda expensive. So we left to just cooking a simple meal, like fried egg. We also came up sometime to just opening a canned food like corned beef, pork and beans or sardines...

Cooking for 2 isn't that bad. A couple things you can do are: Make the full recipe and freeze the rest for another day. Make the full recipe and take the leftovers for lunches to work (saves money too). Cut the recipes in half (or down to 2) so that you aren't wasting anything. Good Luck!!!

yeah cooking for two maybe a bit difficult..but i guess estimation of all the ingredients must be observed in cooking...but i suggest to buy food outside that is restaurants or fastfood since cooking for two at home maybe too costly due to the prices going up..its but practical not to cook...

Basically, I think you need to proportion your cooking accordingly. As you have a small family, it would be wise to buy and cook according to the appetite of the both of you. Another suggestion would have to do with your staple food i.e. rice, I think what you can do is decrease the rice portion so that you can have more varities on the dishes to make up for a balanced diet. I just mention this to remind you that the both of you need to eat a well balanced and healthy diet. Once in a while, you may want to consider going western with your menu of the day. Where the preparation is much easier and manageable. Also, breaking away from montony. I think with these tips in mind it will certainly avoid having a lot of left overs and wastage.

Even we are just two in the house. Me and my daughter. We love left overs. So I keep the remaining food in the fridge and try and make some changes in it the next day or a day after that. That way we dont feel we are having left overs!!!

I understand what you mean. When my Mom is here for five months a year I have to make adjustments. When you come upon a good recipe that sounds delicious, just divide it from 6 to 2. We in America are always being beat over the head with how good you and the Japanese are at math so don't tell me you can't do it! Make what you would for yourself and multiply by two. I know it's hard, because most products are geared toward families of at least 4. I think anyone who would make common groceries in proportions of 2 would make a fortune. I'd LOVE to see 1/3 of a loaf of bread! It would last me 2 months and still be good when I took the last slice from the freezer.

I agree, it's really hard to cook for 2 only. Me too, during weekend sometimes will cook, but just for 2. You can cook more for both lunch and dinner, then a bit easier.

When you cook for two, it is better to gear the items on things that can be refrigerated and will be eaten the next day or two days. Using Ramen Noodles, Boxed Macaroni's and small boxed foods can help not only on the cost of meal prep but also help on making sure those left overs don't get thrown away. I suggest making a list of all boxed items you can think of...then go through and have you and your bf sit down and mark those out that won't be ate at all.... I hope this helps.

i can perfectly understand what you mean... i also only live with my hubby and there are only two of us eating lunch and dinner together everyday... i just cook as normal as i don't want to cook everyday... and if there is a leftover, i just put it in the fridge and eat it again the next day... fortunately, my hubby is not so picky and he does not mind eating left overs... take care and have a nice day...

It is difficult to cook for one or two people! The best thing to do is to cook a meal for four, then freeze half of it! We eat the leftovers the next day, or freeze them for the next week! When you buy food, you can freeze it in smaller portions so that you can use only one or two servings at a time! We have been eating less, so I am learning new techniques to save time and money, just as it was when I was single!

I usually cook for myself and sometimes for my husband since we are not together all the time. We eat alot so we don't have problems making recipies for each other. I just cook as much as i think we are going to eat.

I cook for just one and thats hard too as I often have leftovers. some cooking sites on the web do offer recipes for two and those would be good places to get ideas for meals. cook.com is one of them.there are a number of others that can be converted into recipes for two.

I would suggest when you cook large to break it down into servings of two and them freeze them.. have a couple for 2 and a couple for 1. The other option is to use your imagination when cooking and dont use a recipe. I have never measured out anything it was always done by eye. I even owned a restaurant lol. Hope this helps ya a little

Its not difficult to cook for the 2 of you. in the first place thats the main thing you should start learning about, how to budget meals. there are lots of programs in tv's which offer simple dishes. and website which offers the same way all you have to do is be aware. I also cook for my bf especially on sunday i invite him to our house to eat sometimes, only the 2 of us eat so its a matter of budgeting your meal
