Do you get your pets groomed?

I got my dog cocktail groomed a few weeks ago and she looks like a new dog? Do you get your pets groomed? If so, how often? I know I should take her every few months, but I have only taken her twice in a year. Which means she was a mess. So do you take your pets do get groomed often?

I don't take my dogs to get groomed very often. They both are pretty low maintanence dogs. I bathe them myself once a week and clip their nails myself too whenever they need it. Our first dog used to get a spa day once every couple of months. That was when both my husband and I were working and we sent her to doggie daycare during the day. The same place would give her a free day once she went to day care for a certain amount of days. Other than that, we always do those things ourselves.

We used to take our dog to get him groomed about twice per year. He is a Pomeranian and he gets hot real easy with all of that hair and he also would shed twice per year also so we got his hair cut short. We now groom him ourselves to try to save money. We groom him about twice per year also.

I do all of my own pet grooming needs. We have 2 dogs and 2 inside cats. I've taken the dogs to groomers before and watched how they do it. Then I read some more about it and invested in the equipment so I could do it at home. By doing it myself the equipment paid for itself within a year, and since then I have saved a whole lot of money. My daughter's little shitzipoo needs trimmed frequently, or her long hair covers her eyes. I can keep up with it easier myself, rather than scheduling appointments, and I give her the cut that looks best on that type of dog. The other dog gets groomed, nails and stuff, but really doesn't need hair trims at all. She's a German Shepherd. The only thing that one consistently needs is nails, brush-outs, and nail trims.

To get the little one used to it, I'd put a plastic cloth down on the table, and because the surface is so much higher, she would stand there. I had my one daughter hold her on a short leash with her head up, and praised her a lot when she'd stand still. (They learn more from positive reinforcement than from scolding) After about the 3rd time, she now stands perfectly still, and no one has to hold her. It takes patience to get them to stand while you're doing it, but if they've been to a groomer already, they already have the basics of what's expected. Try it! Sure the first time you might not get the exact cut you want, but each time it gets easier and you get more accurate! Good luck! (Thanks for best response too :-)

i can't really afford to have my dog groomed at this time. I give him baths myself. I do take him to get his nails clipped however. I would not trust myself to do that as you could cut the quick and cause unecessary pain.

We really should take our golden retriever to a groomer. He is so unruly that I just can't handle him myself though. Still a pup at one and a half and definitely a handful. We do take my cat in every month to get him brushed and his nails done. Otherwise he gets knots that I know cause him discomfort at the very least. He hates being groomed, but is very proud and happy when it's over.
