Use of English

I have observed a new trend in certain articles where writers use different words which actually mean the same thing together for the sake of emphasis. The use of such expressions like adequate enough,maroon-cloured jaguar, return back, progress forward, other alternatives, forest of trees etc are commonly used today especially on the internet. I am not English but from my level of education this is a kind of grammatical blunder but it seems to have come to stay. I don’t know if there are some of us here on mylot who have also been observing this or are actually culprits in this regard.

English is the only language that I can write or speak fluently. I think I may be a culprit on some of these words and terms being used but I sure do not intend to do it on purpose. I think it is just the length of time that I have been out of school that is affecting my knowledge of how to use alot of words together.

We also tend to imitate what we hear! I am guessing that our friend has not been to the United States, as you may hear so many dialects and slang, and may be unable to understand anything that is being said!

It can depend on where you live and the dialect that is being used there! American English is a little bit different than English in England! Schools are not teaching the same as they did a few decades ago, and not all the students learn enough while in school!

Yes, I agree! So many times I hear myself talking the way I was talked to, by the people around me! I have noticed in forums like this one, that people in other countries use English slightly different than American English! I did learn it in school too!
