What is the most you have ever spent on a book?

I buy most of mine used. I could never afford to buy all of them new. They are so expensive these days, even if you do not buy hardbacks. I also get some books of sites like What’s On My Bookshelf?, and Book Mooch. So, the most I have spent lately is $1 or less per book. I usually don’t spend $1 on books, but I found some I wanted at a flea market, and decided to buy them anyway.

I have payed £10 for a book I had to get imported from USA we didnt have it here. It was due out 18mnths later in this country and I didnt want to wait that long? It was one of James Pattersons and I wanted to finish the story. I go to car boot sales and only pay 50p for a book, then I pass them on to my sister, she does the same we always have books then.

I think the highest price I ever paid for a book is something like $25. But I got most books as a gift. :)

I think the most I've ever pay for a book was about $20.00. I also like to get them as gifts, but as I said before, go to Goodwill and you will get a good deal on all sorts of book, they have books for kids.

Here I am trying to rack my brains about the most I have spent on a book. The only thing that came to mind was the latest Harry Potter book which I can barely remembered how much. I think it was around $20. I needed to complete my HP collection I buy most of my books paperback so they are cheaper, ranging from $5 to $8. However, I try to stay away from bookstores because I usually end spending a lot. I now just borrow them from the library. However, if the book is good, I will go out of my way to procure my own copy.

If I buy a new book, it is always paperback. Hardbacks are too expensive.

I have bought a book that cost me Indian rupees 1400/-. That is about $ 35. I buy book every month so I end up spending so much at the end of the year. But I think I'm addicted to reading books.

I dont' spend any money on books. My mom and my aunt buy alot of books so I just borrow the books from them and read them then I dont have to pay anything for them it works realy nice when I am done reading them I give them back and they give them to someone else.

That's a good idea. My grandmother and my aunt sometimes gives me book she's already read. I also get some from one of mom's coworkers.

The most I've spent is probably around $25. If it's a book by one of my favorite authors and I've been waiting for awhile for it to come out, I'll buy it new. A lot of times I do go to Half Price Books to see what I can find and have come away with several books from there. They don't always have what I'm looking for so then I end up buying a new copy anyway. Lately my Barnes and Noble has had a lot of books marked down because they were moving locations. I was addicted to the bargain section for awhile. I still am a bit! But I got a lot of books that were marked down below $5 and that included hardbacks. On some of them I saved over $20. And I still have a few to read from that binge. LOL

I've never personally spent this amount but I had a boyfriend who bought me the newest Koontz book when it came out at the time for something like $38, hard cover. I have to confess that books are one thing I will buy.

I like to buy my books used but some of them, I can't wait to read them so I will buy them new. Now I don't have much money so I try to earn gift cards from different places online so I can buy myself books with those. Like my Borders gift card, I bought several books from series that I read and bought a DVD too. If I had buckets of money, I would probably buy all my books new cuz I like the look and smell of a new book but since I am poor, I buy used books most of the time. Unless, like I said, I have a gift card that I earned online to Borders or Amazon. Once, years ago, I paid $95 for a used book. It was a rare title in the Lone Ranger series. I collect Lone Ranger stuff, though not so much anymore since it's all expensive but once upon a time, I paid way too much for that one book. Other than that though, most books I get new, with my gift cards run less than $20 from Amazon. So I think that $95 book is the most expensive one I ever bought.

I am not much of a reader at all so I have not bought any books. If I ever bought any, I would not buy them new either because they are very expensive. They are used after the first time we have used them anyway. I have found my daughter some at yard sales fairly sheap also.

I don't buy new books very often, either. If I do, it is because I have a gift card.

When I was a teenager and living in my parents house I never thought twice about heading out to Barnes and Noble and buying a brand new book. I used to do it a couple of times a week. Now that I am on my own and married with a child I don't have that luxury. There is always something more important that the $10-$20 could get spent on. These days I get a lot of passed down books from my mom and grandma. I also dig around yard sales and thrift stores for used books. Most yard sales are the cheapest route and sell their books for under a dollar. I recently got 5 Nicholas Sparks books at one for only fifty cents!

I get most of mine from thrift stores, too. They are so much cheaper. They sometimes have sales where a bag is only $2, so I wind up getting twenty or thirty books! Luckily, I am a fast reader.

wow, that's really a cheap find! congratulations! anyway, the most expensive book I had was the Textbook for my major class. :( it costs P1,300 = $30, but it is definitely worth it. :) [I hope that counts :)]

I've probably spent 20 dollars on a book before, but that was a long time ago. Now days I check out the used bookstores before going to a new one. I have a hard time reconciling paying more than 10 dollars for a book now. I start thinking oh it will be on sale in 6 months or maybe I can find it in the library. I just can't spend that much on one book anymore.

Hi! The most that I've spent on a book was around P300-P350. Yes, that's one book. But there was a time when I bought the Gossip Girl Series all at the same time and I spent P1,500-P2,000 for the 12 novels. Good thing I bought them on sale. The first four series I only got for P70 and then the rest I got a 5-10% discount. If not for the sale that would've cost me almost twice the price I paid. Cheers!

Hold on to your hats! The most I have spent on a book is $175.00! It was a text book for one of my college classes. People wonder why they have to spend so much on professionals like attorneys and doctors. Their books cost even more, plus all the reference books they have on their shelves. I resent the fact that college students have to pay so much for our books, plus the fact that every year there is a new edition and we HAVE to have that edition. What is funny about it is the fact that I bought a 5 year old accounting book for my accounting class this semester and it was the same book that everyone else had to spend $185.00 for. For my bear making business and for casual reading I usually try to stay around 25 cents to a dollar per book for casual reading, but for the teddy bear making business I have spent up to $40 for a book. Of course that has to be budgeted around the text books ;-)

I like to buy my books used too. But I have to admit that I spent $49.95 for a book last year. It was a friend's novel, published by Lulu and I couldn't believe the price! But I wanted to support my friend and it was a good book.
