My family Dr came to this country (USA) during the war in VietNam. He is from that country originally. Anyhow he talks with a very strong accent still and I love it. I am my fathers caregiver and Dr Pan knows this. When I or dad needs to see the Dr I make appointments for us both to avoid the travel etc as I have to be with dad for his anyhow. Briefly in their culture children take care of all their elderly relatives in their households. No nursing homes etc in that country. Now when we visit Dr Pan he calls dad Mr. John Olson. Then as he has the stethescope to my chest listening he says, "You number one son Mr good son. All people should take care of their dads. Don't put dad in no home ever Mr. good son". Each time I see Dr Pan I am called Mr. Good Son and I love it as it makes me feel so respected and honored for what I do taking care of my dad. I have had Dr Pan as my family Dr. for about 10 years now and hope he stays at the clinic a long time. I just wanted to share this little story of my being proud to be my fathers caregiver was all. Thanks all.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA (Mr. good son) BOB !!~

Hi grandpa bob! Wow I would like that dr! Plus you deserve all that praise, It has to be so hard to be a full time caregiver. I love my doctor also! I'm glad you both have found a dr that you all like. That is really something hard to find these days!

I love Dr Pan and have since he started at the clinic replacing my old Dr. My wife won't go as he is a "MAN" Dr. She prefers a woman Dr. I keep telling her that he is like the Drs that used to make house calls. He recalls peoples faces and lifes etc. And he treats us like a friend not a patient. Thanks.

Mr Good Son, I think that is great and takes a lot of patience to care for your dad. I think it is always best if a loved one can stay with a family member instead of being placed in a nursing home.

There are so many people today who can't take care of an invalid parent, because they have to work just to make ends meet. We live in a much different world now than it was even during the Vietnam war. We have latch key kids, and elderly parents waiting in nursing homes for a visit. I wish we could go back to the time when family could come first, but I am afraid that will never be again in this country, so sad :(

There are still some of us families that live
by that creed, "family comes first" and I am one
of those family members. I also wished more did this.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! I do admire you for having the time and the will to take care of your Dad. I know it is difficult but the love and care that you are giving your dad rewards your heart with much more happiness inside. You are a good son indeed! Here in our country, we do take care of our elders. Although, I completely understand why some people have to take their elders to nursing homes for the reason that they are working and they are assured that their elders will be given the professional care that they need too. I guess, all of us are doing our best for our parents though we have different ways on doing it. Anyway, I do salute you Mr. Good Son!
Take Care and God Bless! Happy Mylotting!

I look at it as it is my responsibility or another siblings to tend to dad in his ailing years. Nothing more than something all children should do for their parents as well. My heart is filled with love from doing this. Maybe not from him showing it from knowing I do a great job at it even though I risk him getting angry with me. When he does I just tell him, you asked to be here and have me care for you. LIVE WITH IT OLD MAN! That always shuts him up. Thanks bunches. I love hearing the kind words about me caring for dad.

You have every right to be respected for what you are--a good son! I think it's awful that we have so many of our oldies in nursing homes. Everyone is so busy that they have no time to live or even care for anyone!
My mom isn't going to a home, either. She had to go to physical rehab when she broke her pelvis last summer and after seeing how she was treated there--I had to raise hell several times and caused quite a stir--I will never, ever trust my mother to anyplace like that, which was a well-respected and highly recommended facility for extended care and assisted living. That was scary!

After dad had his heart surgery he NEEDED to be in a home for 5 weeks. Man that place was so awful I didn't even visit him much due to that fact. Plus I needed some time away. I did see him eac day but not for a long period of time. I hated it. Good for you as well.

I do not plan to put any family members in a nursing home if I can help it. My first husband asked to go to one, thinking it would free me up a little. It did for maybe a week or two, then I was there twenty two hours a day. I have, since that time, worked in nursing homes, and no matter how good they are, they are just not good enough.

The only way dad goes is if he is bed ridden and my back won't allow me to tend to his needs and/or he can longer afford home health care if that happens.

You sound like a great caregiver, Grandpa Bob. I am glad you have a doctor who appreciates it. I have seen some doctors who do and some who do not want to fool with the children at all. They have all these privacy laws now and I guess that's why.

Thank you very much. It's stressful but the rewards of seeing him improve or whatever are numerous. Dr. Pan is the best Dr. I've had since my old family Dr from the 60's that made house calls and was a friend of the family as well and came for dinner ,many times with his wife and kids. He wasn't a friend till we started to go to him as patiens etc.

That's wonderful that your Dr. is like this, Mr. Good Son. For you are a grand person to take on the responsibility for the care of your dad. I pray I have the strength and energy to care for my mom when the time comes she can no longer do it on her own.

It does make you feel good and you should. Not many do that anymore...claiming being too busy or not accustomed to taking care of someone..or it being too difficult. My brother...sisters and I took turn taking care of my dad. When he passed away we were all with him....what a wonderful way to leave this earth surrounded by those that love you! Kudos to you Bob.
