I started studying ballet at a small, neighborhood school in 1967. In 1968 I was awarded a full scholarship to the American Ballet School for the Joffrey Ballet. I left there in 1973 and had a career as a teacher and performer (but not a ballet dancer, persay).
I wonder if there is anyone else out there!!!!

Hi nanajanet,
I study ballet age 9 (i have my small tutu and i can point my feet perfectly) i stop at age 12 because the price of lesson are rise and can't afford anymore. Then, I still hopping for lesson and dreaming till now about ballet. Then i got an accident and one of my toe is broke.
I felt like God pick me up and put me in a jar aft that. The reality ballet is not for me to dance. But maybe just for an audience.
Happy posting always!!

I am sorry that you could not continue. If you cannot do it, watch it. I love that you can see beautiful dancers from all types of dance, on Youtube.

YES! I am a dancer. I have studied ballet since i was 3 and i'm now 23. I danced for the Miami City Ballet and the Orlando Ballet! I'm now retired b/c my body just couldnt take it anymore. But I still dance.... just not professionally. I love it. I dont think I can ever ever ever give it up. Actually, it's my goal to get back into it somehow. I'm itching to perform. I plan to look into joining a modern dance company for fun... provided i have the time to. But if not, i will continue to take dance classes forever! haha

It's sad that your body could not take it at such a young age but that only means that there is something else out there for you. It's good to take off from the main road and turn off at new intersections to see where life brings you.
I love teaching and enjoy performing, too, as I am a huge fan. As much as I love ballet, I really am enjoying my musical theater and tap classes (teaching), as they are a lot of fun and I get to show off my "personality".
I don't think that I could ever NOT be involved in dance. I tried it for a short time, after retiring from owning a dance school, and it lasted all of 3 months. LOL

yes there is!
I studied at the arts high school (drama, but dance was a major too) and then had to stop for medical reasons. too bad.
10 years later I took up ballet as a hobby again. 3 times a week. I got totally hooked on it for 2 years and then lost interest again. so I took a sabbatical last year, but I think i will start again in september when the classes reopen. I miss it now.

It's nice to meet up with other lovers of ballet. I am sort of glad that I never did ballet professionally as I don't think that I had the personality for it. On stage I did, but it's quite demanding, more so than theater and dancing in a night club act.
