My wife's boss went to an auction recently. He bought us a new Lilac Bush. I split this into two bushes. He paid $3 for it. So for $1.50 each I have two great and healthy looking new Lilacs. They are supposedly the Blue variety which will mix well with the deep purple. They have been planted and are taking well. The leaves did not turn down or wilt at all so they should thrive. In a couple more years I'll have more pretty smelling flowers for the table vase. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That is fantastic - especially as plants are so expensive! My boss used to get me things from the cash and carry (wholesales and only for businesses) but then he gave me my own card so if i want anything I can go myself, it is fantastic but he still picks things up for me if I can't get there! xxx

I love the smell of lilacs, My mom has a few bushes of them in front of her house and when they start to bloom they are just the most wonderful smell.. I wouldn't mind have a few bushes of lilacs around my house... However bee's and things like them... Hers are purple and very very pretty, I do believe some pink ones too I'm not 100% sure..

I love lilacs, they are pretty and they smell so good. My only complaint is they don't last long. Here is a tip to make them last longer once you cut them. Take the stem and lay it on the ground, take a hammer and crush the end of the stem. That lets the flower draw up more water and makes them last longer in the house.

It must be nice to have a green thumb like you do. My son is the one with the green thumb in my family. He tends to all of our plants, potted and in the flower bed. Ever so often he will make a spot in the back yard and he will plant a few veggies. I have no talent and no green thumb. Those lilac bushes sure will smell good and I agree the blue and deep purple will look so good together.

Well it is great to have a green thumb but then my wife wants me to plant SO MUCH due to this. Well okay she has a green thumb as well and soes her share of planting. The strawberry patch is her baby and I seldom do anything except water it for her while she is at work all week. She weeds and everything else there. She also does the flower pots, and flower boxes. The flower beds etc are my responsibility. Well have your son make a nice sized garden for you then? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I love lilacs!! I want to get some but is it too late in the year here in Ohio? Have you heard about B2? It's a mineral or vitamin that I used in Arizona to prevent plants from going into shock when I put them in the ground and it stimulates root growth. I haven't found it here, they probably don't need it with the wonderful soil here, but I'd sure like to have some. Congrats on the lilacs! Your wife's boss must be a really nice guy to think of you.

Hi Grandpa Bob two bushes from one. thats great. a blue lilac oh I would love to see that as I have never seen a blue one and that sounds lovely too. we had the usual purpleones and a white one too oh and a light pink one back on the farm. I wonder if real lilacs would do well here in California. we havesomthing called a california 'lilac but its a far cry from a real lilac and has no scent at all. I loved our big lilacs as a child and my mom always had vases full of lilacs aroound our house. They smelled so good almost as good as the honeysuckle vines along our porch. Now all I have are memories.
