I understand that different Christian churches have different types of music. Do you think the type of music pulls or encourages people into the church?

I'm a music leader in our church. the type of music we sang on our church became an issue to our members. because in our church, we came from different church denomination. some were used to hymnals and some were used to lively songs. also we cater elders and youth. so we need to balance the type of song to sing, to not stumble or discourage the congregation. we agreed to balance the type of songs to be sang. we also adopt some songs to encourage the young people. for me it is really important to choose properly what type of song that we will sing in our church. as music leaders, its our responsibility to encourage and lead the congregation in worship.

Music is one of the way to draw more people to join the church. It shouldn't be the main element of it. Biblical music with meaningful lyrics will indeed open our hearts before we listen to God's words during preaching time. Besides, the lyrics will also able to minister to us too.

Very true! Music is also a ministry and when those who are playing, are playing under the annointing of God, you can really tell! People can be delivered when annointed singers, and musicians play!

Amen, i totally agree with that. But beware, songs can be ministered to our hearts and can destroy our life too if we listen to cult songs too. Have a nice day.

Music is an important role - it encourages praise and worship to go forth in the atomosphere. Can we do that without it, of course. However, David said to praise God with the psaltery and harp, cimbal and dance, etc. I grew up in a Presbyterian church attending with my grandmother where only hymnals were sang. I now attend an Apostolic Christian church where all types of instruments are used and the music is lively, upbeat, and really helps in creating praise!

That is a good question: can we do that (worship) without it (music)? Somebody did ask me this question recently and I did point back to the Old Testament where as you've mentioned, the harps and cymbals and dance was definitely an element.

i dont know about other people but i dont like church music, its not like it is gonna deter me from going to church which i havent done in a long time now, it is bearable, i dont like it but i hardly notices it, i think its the dogmas or the people who are in it are the source of encouragement or the ones that can drive people away from the church

I know when I hadn't gone to church for many years and decided to go again, they kind of music they played really helped me get back into the habit of going. All the churches I had gone to before that had that boring old hymns and they just made church a chore. Now, there's a lot of variety in the music and some churches are worth going to because of it. Of course, though, if I don't make personal connections with the people there, I probably won't stick around for long. So, the music helps bring me in, but the people help me to stay.
