I'm not religious..in fact..I walked away from organized religion a long time ago. Lately, there had been a lot of biblical questions on my lot, and I got inspired to ask this. I'm very familiar with the bible, and it has plenty of great stories, especially the Old Testament. This got me thinking, for those who have read the book or at least familiar with it, who is your favorite character in it? My favorite is Joseph of Egypt. I love how he was able to overcome all the obstacles in his life and be the saviour not only of his family but of his people...never mind that it lead to the slavery of the Israelites to the Egyptians later. How about you? Who among the people who walked in the Bible is your hero or heroine?

I rather like David. He was far from perfect, but still loved God with all his heart, didn't allow Saul's pursuit of him tarnish his loyalty to Saul or his friendship with Jonathan, not afraid to cut loose periodically (although some mocked him for dancing in the streets) and proof that imperfection and sin do not prevent God from loving a person. Yeah - I think David's pretty cool.

True...the Shepherd boy who with his faith killed Goliath..that is the David I adore. It was just tragic to see such a great man fall, lusting after another's man's wife, sending him to battle to get killed and then claiming her for himself. Thanks for sharing!

The Bible is full of interesting stories and people. Of course, I would say Jesus is my hero in the Bible, but I know a lot of people are going to say that, so that's a given. Other than that I love the story of Esther. Hers is a story about how God puts you in a position to do the most good at the right time. She didn't ask to be in the position she was in, but she was able to use it to save her people from annihilation.

I have to agree...Queen Esther was definitely a woman to be emulated. She put her life on the line, but trusted the love of her husband to find a way to resolve the issue. Yes - I can go with that.

I have to go with Joseph too. The way he was treated and the way he was able to forgive his brothers is amazing and inspirational. Yeah, I like that story too.

Well I guess the obvious answer for me would be Jesus, but that is too easy. So other than he, I would say Esther. I can't imagine how scared she must have been when she entered the king's domain, knowing if he was not OK with her presence, she could be killed. I mean he had already banished Vashti, and she took her faith and put it in God's hands. As a result she was instrumental in keeping the Jews from being killed due to the prior proclamation the king had signed.

I don't know as though I can pick a favorite as I do so enjoy them all. But one of the stories that stands out in my mind is the story of Joseph and his ordeals from beginning to the end.

There are many that I turn to and read to help me in different periods in my life. Noah, shows obedience. They had never heard of rain and yet he built an ark. Even thou he was living in a very corrupt time, he still held close to God. Abraham's life is of great importance, because he was chosen of God to become the father of a new spiritual race. Even thou he tried to do things his way, God was still able fulfill his promise through him. He was still able to show remarkable faith and obedience. King David, His life was a strange mixture of good and evil. It was filled with noble deeds, fine aspirations and wonderful accomplishments; yet he had some gross sins. He shows the true forgiveness of our Father. In those days, you took a sacrifice to the priest, but David realized that God wanted more than sacrifice. He shows us how to praise God. Elijah- the prophet of fire. A great man of faith! Even thou he shows signs of depression, through his weakness God is able to show his might. Elisha- the prophet who received a double portion of God's spirit. His life and Elijah's lives were parallel, but Elisha didn't have the ups and downs of depression as Elijah. (These 2 men really inspire me.) Daniel, also is a man of great faith. He was a captive to Babylon, but still held dear to God. Hannah- the ideal mother. She shows grace and power of prayer. Peter- the rock. Even thou he denied Christ, after Christ went to the Father, he started showing boldness. The list could go on and on teaching us in our everyday lives.
