If there is anyone who knows what I need to do to fix my computer then I would appreciate it. I shut it off last friday and turned it on yesterday to find a black screen that says that a file is corrupt or missing. It says that I need to reinstall the file but I don't have any disks as it didn't come with any. It says the error is a start up file. It reads says that a system 32 file is missing. I don't know how to fix it and I don't want to lose what I have saved on it if I don't have to. Does anyone know anything about this?

dear friend, in my opinion you should defrag your computer system firstly then tried to make disk clean up. in your case, i think the system 32 is not missing at all but move on another place somewhere in your computer. if defrag system and disk clean up still not working then you should repair the software. no need to re-install the software firstly, just repaired it. however, if you are not sure about what you should gonna do, then better you called someone around you to help you to fix up this matter wish all of you the best, dear

I can't defrag it or anything like that as it won't come up to any screen other than the error screen.I thought that I could fix it but I haven't been able too. I figure that I will call someone today.

carol,I had the same thing happen to me the other day.I'm not sure why it controls the start-up of windows but all you need to do is turn off the DSL box, restart windows(computer) and then turn the DSL back on .

I wish I had read this before I took the computer to the shop today. I had to get it fixed as I tried a long time yesterday and could not get it to start. Thanks for your advice and I will see if it is fixed when it returns or not.

Well Carol I am hoping that you have it sorted out now, the only thing I would have suggested is reformatting it which would mean that you would loose everything so I hope that someone has come up with a better way to fix it but when I had that problem that is what I had to do

I didn't want to reformat it unless I had to. I don't want to lose all of the stuff that is saved on it unless I have to. I took it to a shop today to see what I could have done with it. I hope that it works and that they save my stuff.

I had this happen to me a long time ago also. I am not sure what happened to it either. I had to call the computer manufacturer and we had to reformat the disk or hard drive. they know how to help you restart your system and get it to go back to when you had no errors. They may charge you a fee but you will be up and running in no time again. they will tell you what to do step by step. I forgot all of the steps or I would help you too.

Thanks for your help. I hate to have to do that but if that is the only way to fix it then I will have to do it. I hate computer issues but I don't want to lose all my data and I don't want to buy a new computer.

If you have a winXp cd you an repair your system without losing any saved data in the installation drive by choosing repair option at the time of reinstallation. If you had any xp cd you try to login as safe mode by pressing F8 key in the keyboard and selecting safe mode from a list at the time of booting. After that you can restore your system .

I don't have a disk as we didn't get any when we bought the computer. I thought that I could do that if I had one but since I didn't I sent it to the shop today. I didn't know how to start it in safe mode to see if I could get it to come on at all. I hope that the repair man gets it fixed and that he doesn't lose all of my programs that I have installed.
