Best Responses..what do you do when...

You have two or more really excellent responses and can only give one "Best". Do You give it a person who - Is one of your friends. Is a newbie who you feel you may be giving some encouragement. Obviously does not have English as their first language but had given considerable thought and effort to their response. Add a comment to the responses that did not get the "Best" that you wish them to know it was a response worthy of "Best". How do you decide? Must the response meet a certain criteria you have established or do you think it really does not matter or no-one cares?

I usually give it to the one that jumps out at me pal , It doesn't matter to me who it is as long as it is someone deserving , xx

I usually give best response for nice response that bring satisfy in answering my discussion. I dont really require the person is in my mylot friend list, or he/she posted with correct grammar, or how nice they put the image... as long as the response really good for me, i will give him/her best response! Yeah, many times i gave already best response to a person, and after a time, there;s still new response to my discussion, and i thought its better than the one that i gave my best response (hiks! i wanna give again best response... but i cant!)

You know I give those medals thingy. But really, I might just give it to the one with not-as-good English IF she is obviously putting in good effort. I know sometimes English get in the way and this results in some people seldom getting best responses. myLot should be a place where people can feel happy so I like to try help things out a little. But of course, if the one with better English is obviously better all in all, it is only fair to give it to her.

I like your meal thingies and I wish myLot would make something like that available for the rest of us. I see that you do the same as me for non English speaking myLotters.

I think I would give the one who really deserves it, no matter how their grammar sounds like, as long as the person really makes sense (and I do appreciate their efforts), if the person is out of my friend list, I would still give it to him / her. :)

the only criteria that i have in giving them my best response is that if i really love their answer. i don't care if he/she is a newbie or a friend of mine as long as i love his/her answers

That is a very good question, though one that so far I haven't had. I did come close though, very close. I think that what I may do in this situation is to get a second opinion. So far, I have picked my best responses by feeling in a way. I have even picked one or two before i have read them all. It must be such a response that it just jumps out and grabs me even though I may not realize why. There is just something extra special about it. Most often, though, I have to read through all the responses several times before I reach that decision.

I usually give out a best response to the first response that I see worthy of such. But I will hold off on marking it for about a week. I will also hold on to that particular response in my email so that I have it on hand, in case I see another that I think deserves the honor. Plus this way I can go to that particular email and not have to search it out in the discussion itself. If it happens that I get more than one then I compare these and see which one is better. Afterwards I mark it.

You know I find best responses really difficult to do whiteheather! I usually end up doing them about once every month or 2 and devoting an afternoon just to doing them as I have to be in the right frame of mind! Usually there is one response that touches me or just strikes the right chord that gives it that extra something to put it forward as MY best response , it means something to me! When there are a few that are in the running I just try and think of the thought that has gone in and how each of those responses correlated to the the post that usually shows me the way to go to choose the best response! xxx

I mark best the response that I like most. It does not matter who wrote it.

I don't really have any criteria. I am not the mylotter that starts a discussion and awards best response only a few hours later though. I like to leave it out there for awhile and get as many responses as possible before giving the best response. I feel good giving them and getting them.

I give the best response to the person who's response "made the most sense" or "made me smile" when i read it or to someone who has obviously made an effort. If i only get one response in a discussion and It doesn't make sense/doesn't pertain I don't give a best response.

I think I would give it to a newbie to help get them started by giving some encouragement

Yeah common, give it to the newbies like me! ;-) lol. I really don't think people care much about it.. I think you just have to try to be as objective as possible: if it is a good response, it is a good response, end of story. By the way, whats the advantage you get when you're marked as "best response"? I really don't have a clue.

I choose best response according to my reaction upon reading it, did it make me think, did it present a new or interesting viewpoint, did it make me laugh or cry. If I have to make a difficult choice I will just pick one and tell the other how hard the choice was to make.

interesting I usually keep the discussion open for sometime so that i don't miss any ones points or view and when the time i feel is right I would select the better of the two .i know it will be hard for me but i will see the relevancy of the response as per the topic created and deicide upon

usually i choose positive and encouraging responses as best response on my thread...it really doesn't matter if he's a newbie or a friend, or a complete stranger..i mean if he has a nice response, then he's good. :D but if i had already marked the best response and something good came along, i make sure that i commend that person for the effort :D
