I'm not sure why, but for the past week I've really wanted to find some books about volcanoes. Books on the history of them, the way they have impacted certain places, and things like that. Maybe it is because I just finished a book on tornadoes. I probably should have saved that twister book for the winter since we have had so many tornadoes touch down already. But anyway, I'm interested in reading and learning more about volcanoes. I'd rather find books about them than reading about them online. Maybe e-books...
Is there something you'd like to learn more about or know more about?

Sounds very interesting that you like to read about volcanoes and tornadoes. The field I am very interested in reading books, news, magazines, is "astronomy". I am very fascinated by the wonders of space, the universe, the systems rolling around. This is something which is a big challenge for us to learn about.

Yes there is. I picked up 3 books on painting today at the library. I have been trying my hand at acrylic painting and there's alot I need to learn. A while back I got addicted to biographies. I read one after the other.

I just got through reading Alfred Hitchcock's biography. I haven't seen many of his movies, but I saw an old interview of him on TV the other day from the 1970s and he seemed fascinating.
Acrylic painting sounds like a lot of fun. You have the right idea about getting the books. Might as well do it well if you're going to try it all! I should remember that if I ever try anything artistic.

I with you there in regards of reading up on things via books rather than on-line. I do write a lot of articles and sometimes depending on the topic, I need some background info, and rather than dash to a library will look up websites for the info...but most of my "research" isn't too involved...so no problem...I'm just not a very good on-line reader...I'm still too use to having a physical book in my hands to read. As far as something new I'd like to learn? Mmmm...actually sometimes with me it might be something I did learn long time ago, but haven't read up on in years and years. I actually have tons of books of my own at home and wouldn't mind re-reading books on Ancient Egyptian culture again..haven't read anything since college days. Or just history in general and you should see the books I have. Or another thing I wouldn't mind doing. I did study a little of French in college...I still have all my language tapes and so forth, even the same college text book from my French class...would love to really buckle down and learn French all over again

Right now I am in Arizona and my son in law is going to take me for a drive tomorrow to take pictures of the desert flowers and the flowering cactus. Because of the difference in the plant life here I want to get some pictures and read up on them even though I have a brown thumb. They however take them for granted and don't see the beauty in the different kinds of plant life. There is some beautiful landscaping around here that must seem pretty to the eye of the beholder and I find the unusual plants very interesting and beautiful!

Volcanoes do have quite the history. Hawaii is mostly volcano. E books might be good. Me I like the old fashioned bound books. That means a trip to the library most of the time.

Hi Spookybutt,
Well, you seem to have a morbid streak in you there!
Volcanoes are rather spectacular, historically speaking. There must be heaps of material in print on that subject.
But as for me, there's not too much of a specific nature that I have any interest in, beyond health issues, perhaps.
Too many things to learn, and never enough time to focus properly on any one of them!
I have to say, though, that some of those tornadoes are a sight to behold. Especially the really big ones that chew up semi-trailers and rail cars and stuff.
I hope your sudden interest in volcanoes isn't an omen...

That sounds like a great idea. I didn't like history when I was in school, but now that I have grown older, I love it. I love to know more about volcanoes, earthquakes, tornados, tsunamis, hurricanes and much more. We rent Netflix movies monthly and every now and then, I will rent those types of things. I also like to watch documentaries too. I have seen the 9/11 documentaries and they are quite graphic, detailed and very informative.

I recently started using netflix too. I'm currently awaiting a documentary called The Beauty Academy of Kabul. It's about women from here who went over to Afghanistan to open up a hair salon so the women who were now able to work over there, had a trade to use.

The forces of nature are very fascinating, probably because we can't control them. I'm always interested in the doco/drama shows about them.
You could try your local library for some good books on volcanoes, or even get some on order with your local bookstore, if they don't have them in stock.
Me, I want to learn more about Criminal Psychology and Forensic Psychology. I want to be a criminal profiler one day, and both these degrees will help with that. I already watch the shows on the same lines, like Criminal Minds, and it is helping me to get a head start with my Uni studies, but it might be another 5 years before I manage to actually do my studies, and probably about 10 years before I am ready to work in the field. Oh well, even if I never get a job as a profiler, I will have learnt all about it for my interests.
