Messy people: do you know any?

Hubby and I went to Marseille this weekend to collect my stuff that I sent via ship and we stayed with his childhood friend. Now, my hubby did warn me beforehand that this friend of his is a rather messy person. The this is this - the word "rather" is an understatement. When I got there, the moment the door opened, there was this smell of rot and decay not to mention stinky clothes/stuff. There were dishes in the sink, pots & pans on the stovetop unwashed and stains as well as food bits everywhere. There was no rubbish bin so the rubbish was all over on the floor right next to the unused dry goods like cans, and etc. The living hall was no better - crumbs, papers and clothes on the sofa, used glasses & cups plus empty bottles & cans together with crumbs and papers on the coffee table. The dining table was covered with the same stuff. The room that he put my hubby and I in had a computer table but it was covered with boxes, CDs, cables and papers. I could hardly see/find the mouse & keyboard!!!!!!!! There were boxes of clothes on the floor and more paper! There was no bin in the bathroom and nowhere to hang your clothes. My hubby's friend "improvised" by drapping his clean towel over the laundry bin and just hanging a plastic bag filled with gawd knows what on the door handle. My hubby then told me that the last time he came, it was just as bad and even he couldn't take it - he started doing the dishes for his friend. When we got back to our place, my hubby cuddled under the sheets and started purring about how nice it was to have a clean and tidy place... I really can't understand how people get to this stage and have no qualms whatsoever about it. It is because of laziness or what? Am I the only one who encounters people like this regularly? (I have other stories which are equally shocking!)

Hi Mei, Do you know his blood type? I will have a guess that high chance it is type O. From observations among my friends, people of this blood type are typically lazy, sloppy and/or messy. It is unfortunate but I do reside in close proximity of some of these people and they basically threaten to ruin your every day - simply because I am a tidy, organized and clean person. We are direct opposites and so we cannot coexist peacefully. To them, they might not even think they are messy. They take a look at your room and might call you weird for cleaning up a mess that they do not think is a mess. Often, I have wondered like you how they can stand it all but I guess it is all part of their genes. To us, they are but to them, it is perfectly normal.

Urm, I'm an O and I'd like to think that I'm hardly like my hubby's friend. XD My HB thinks that he's just lazy...sometimes I tell myself (not HB) that this is probably why he can't find a gf. *hmm*

Yeah I live with someone that is pretty messy. Probably would be as messy as your husbands friend if we'd let her behave that way. She doesn't know how to change a trash bag, just keeps piling trash into the bin until the one that tries to close it can't because it's too full. They leave empty soda cans and cans full of soda all over the place. If they drop something on the floor or spill something it generally stays there until you clean it up or someone tells them they can't leave it there. It actually frustrates them when you ask them to clean up. I hate it. I think in my situation she's just lazy and prefers for other people to do it. I'm not sure about your husbands friend however.

I think we have all been messy at one point or another. It's just to what extend of "messiness" and what level. I have met messy people before. I had one music student who's parents never kept the apartment clean. I have to always remember to wear socks when I go teaching cos the floor is very sticky and dirty - sometimes there's bread crumbs and sweet wrappers on the floor. I also make sure that I go to the toilet (my husband has gone to their toilet before and he told me things -when he went to fix their pc - which is ohhhh!!!!) so before I go and teach this student I have to mae sure I empty myself 1st. There was once I forgot I just had to endure for one hour from going to the toilet. But I have stopped teaching this student now cos they have moved across to the mainland.

I have a friend that I don't like when she's eating because she's a little messy. She has this bits of foods on her lips and sometimes won't use the plate to prevent foods from dropping. I don't like it. And after we eat, she just leave her place on the table so messy. When I eat, I always place my spoon and fork in its proper place and clean up some tissues or whatever. I don't like messy people on the table. In their rooms, I guess I won't care much as long as it doesn't stink. If clothes are everywhere, it's okay. Or if scratch papers are not properly in the waste basket, it's perfectly okay. Just as long as my nose won't smell something that makes me throw up..

I've never met people like the one you told above, but I've heard a lot about them and it is shoking to me. I can't understand how a person can live in such a mess.

I would have been like your husband and started cleaning. I wouldn't have been able to not do so. Sadly I do know some like this including my one brother. What is worse is he's staying with us right now. The man is a total slob and makes our life miserable. We aren't neat freaks but neither my sister nor I like to have messes in the house like that. He does nothing around the house to clean up after himself although normally he will throw out his trash but he doesn't do dishes at all or help clean anything in the house. He's been with us for a while and at one point he was using the one bedroom (long story but now he's not) and he had a separate kitty litter pan in there for his cat. He would empty it once a month. The smell coming from there was horrendous. How he could sleep in there is beyond me. We have several cats and our boxes are emptied nightly. Before he came to live with us when we visited where he was at we thought the mess was due to his roommates since we knew he'd been raised better then that. We found out differently. He lets trash and dishes just pile up and over flow. He seldom does his laundry or change his sheets. He has crumbs, dust and cat hair all over his computer desk. It's just disgusting to me.

Oh I'd pity the poor girl who got him. No one deserves that . If he's anything like my brother it probably went right over his head and didn't register. And yeah that is our thought on the kitty litter as well. WE couldn't stand the smell and now his cat uses the same boxes as ours and we clean it every night. Something I have to go and do. By the way I love your avatar right now. That is so cute.

I was SOOOOOOO tempted...but after pausing a minute to think, I figure that it would have taken me an entire weekend. @_@ The thing was this - I do wonder if I had come across as being rude at some point by telling him that he needs to get a girl who'd help him clean up the place! :S Once a month?!??? Cat litter???? @_@

I'm messy but not that messy. I can't stand unwashed clothes on the bed or chair, undone dishes in the sink and dust or unpleasant smell from any part of the house. I, though had a habit of scattering my things all over the floor while I'm working. My soon to be wife always complains on how my things can "ran away" and out of my reach. She can't even phantom that I can work with that kind of environment but I always finish my work.

Hey there , My hubby is known to be messy , but it is not too bad. He will leave his shoes in all the wrong places. Also, he will be known to not clean up afer himself. He is very neat with his cd and books. My brother is a true pig ! his cds are thrown about and he has dirty clothes everywhere . Also, who knows what has been in his room over the years . Sometimes, i dont get my finace why he can be messey . If you clean it up then , it wont build up . Now most times I will just do it myself.
