What will u do when u meet beggars?

The other day when I was waiting for a bus, an old beggar with a forced smile came to me asking for money, and I simply walked away as I was really tired of these people. Then he went to other people, one by one, again and again---but nobody gave him a cent. When the bus coming and passing by, I happened to see him, alone, with his luggage on the floor, so pathetic there---then I started to question myself, why not believe what he said and gave him two yuan for the bus. Two yuan is not a big deal, even if I was cheated;besides, there was the chande to help him out. I just can't bear to see him rather alone there. It's too often to meet a beggar, and sometimes it's so troublesome that everyone avoids them as if he would get infectioned. But why not give them a hand when u can---U won't lose anything---and ignoring them doesn't seem humane. I'm wondering what will u guys so when u meet them?

i dont give them anything..bcoz they r equally capable to work here and there to earn their living..they r basically too lazy to work and find it easy to beg..i feel all shud discourage them by not paying them..i raise my car window to avoid..have a nice day..

Thanks for all your responses above. It is really kind of you to comment so much! In my opinion, Some beggars are really in need while others fishes in troubled waters which influences our help towards the in need because we can't tell the former from the latter. With things as such, more and more people become more indifferent to all these beggars. Enjoy yourself and have a nice day!

Hi, do you how it feels like when you found out that those beggars cheated on you by beg money from you? They might pretend they are deaf, with heavy diseases and other kind of reason. But actually they are more healthy than you and earn more than you by just begging. I prefer to give money to beggar when my heart told me to do so.

I feel very much the same. I did saw one beggar acting weak while begging for money, then when he wasn't able to get some, he walked away. When he was a little bit far from the group he approached, he changed his posture and walked like a normal person which means he was just acting it out.

i wouldn't normally give money to beggars, especially to kids. When I have food, I give it to them. But I haven't done that for a long time.

My mom told me once that if U met old beggars just give them a coin, cause they really aged. So when I happened to see an old beggar, I will give him a coin. But after many times, I found that beggars are always stay together, when U give one beggar a coin, there will come another beggar which troubleed me sometime. But anyway, I only give coin to old beggars.

It depends. At earlier time I usually gave some food and money to them as they were really in need. At later time I felt disappointed for there are so many professinal beggars in disguise. They on one hand threatened the real in need beggars, on the other hand cheated many kind-hearted people. So now more and more people become indifferent to them and the situation. So do I!

Poverty lead this people to beg in the streets. I dont give money, I give food and clothes. When I meet beggars in the street I think about how lucky I am to not be in their situation. I think about what will become of them and how this will affect their esteem and outlook in life. It's sad to know poverty is something that we cannot eliminate.

I will do the same as you. I would try to help earlier...but I soon realized that most of them used it for the wrong stuff...and we've heard of lots of cases where these beggars kidnap kids and make them blind or amputate their legs and hands and use them to beg. The government has shelters for the beggars and will help them to learn some skill that will help them to earn money of their own. But they refuse to do it. This is the easy way out...and some of them this way make more money than other hard working people. That is why most people do not give them any money now. I don't believe any of the beggars (and yes, there might be one or two who are genuine and yes, I do feel guilty when I refuse)...and I will not give them anything.

It really depends. I'm very shy and don't make eye contact to most people. OFten I look at the begger and say sorry don't have any change and smile at them. WHen traveling in other countries such as mexico and cuba I don't even engage them at all. I sometimes give them food if I have it with me. I used to always give them smokes. The odd time I'll give them money. My friend and I went downtown one day and gave out sandwhiches that we had made to homeless people. It was a great thing to do and was very satisfying.

I give money to those who are old and disable to work. If a beggar who is young and strong asks me to give him some money,i won't give any money, coz i think this kind of beggars are still can work. They can find a job to support their daily life. Although they only can find a job with very low salary, that's much better to be a beggar. But to those old one, i think they are really need helps from us. Most of time i won't give them money, but some food. I may buy a piece of bread or a cupnoodle to them instead of giving money to them. I think it is much better to avoid trickers.

hello, :D, hmmm,I'll give something depends on what he asked me to give him or he's too old and quite believable with his situation. Nowadays, it's hard to trust those people, sometimes instead they gratified to the thing you give them, they will complained and asked for a much higher value of money. Worse, they begged you as a front to steal things from you. So,usually, I didn't help them immediately, I'll analyze first their character if they aren't dangerous and pretty safe to help them. And usually, it isn't money I gave them, I rather give them food than money. Because money can be used to buy an illegal thing that they can used. XD

sometimes its hard really how to react or treat a beggar. In our country, beggars are more often than not part of a syndicate that earn big money from soft-hearted people who give alms to beggars. Or sometimes they operate on their own because they are really earning enough to sustain their living even if they don't go to work. However, even if they are just fooling people, the person who helped out of his good heart and motivation will always receive reward from God. I wish to share my own stories on beggars and I hope you will not mind. One time, I went to settle my Income Tax and saw a beggar crying out so loud on his knees holding on his stomach as if he was suffering from great pain. Out of compassion I gave him a big bill and left even praying for him as I proceeded paying my tax. After around 30 minutes as I went out of the BIR building, I saw again the same beggar some meters away from the first spot I saw him and you know what...he was gambling with some men who look like beggars as well. Now I learned my lesson, Eeven if I would really feel touched by their pathetic sight I always avoid giving them even a single cent. If ever, I would only give food that I have with me like biscuits or sandwich whatever is on hand. But you know sometimes I encountered a beggar who refused the food and was even demanding that I give him money. Terrible encounters with beggar really!

give them food instead of money, I'd rather see them eat at least it will go straight down to their stomach, rather than money which will make them eager to beg more everyday. I think that will be the best way of sharing

i know its not right to choose people whom we are going to help. but i had a bad experience with this street children. they we're asking for money. i was actually buying bread on a bakery. so what i did, since im hungry too, i shared to them the bread i bought. they said thank you. and i was happy that i had an opportunity to help this children. but when im already riding on the car, i saw this children throwing the bread to each other. they were playing with the bread. i was really sad and quite angry that this kids really doesn't give importance to the food i gave them.

I really like to be kind to others; in a small place like where I live I would ask them if they are hungry and I would go with them and get them something to eat. I will not say all of them, but some of whom I have come in contact, take the money an buy illegal stuff, so am leary of giving beggars money. The word is full of con-artists, sad to say.

I wish I am Santa, listing everybody wants and giving it. I wish I am a billionaire so I can easily give my extra cash. I wish I am a politician so I can immediately help them. However I am not... When I meet beggars especially those beggars who bothers me a lot, I recite a simple prayer. A simple offering I can give...

I don't give money as many spend it on booze, but if I have food, a snack bar, etc. I will give it to them. Also, when I leave a restaurant and have a doggy bag, if I see one who is begging, I will give it to them. I have seen the wolf it down like nothing. I would rather give food. Many are too proud, or too mentally ill to go the shelters. Therefore but the grace of God go I.

i ask beggars what they are worth, how much they want... And i will give them that amount unless its over R100 then directly after I ask him why he think he is worth so little? ormally they dont know but just by telling him he is not worth one cent less than us sometimes really makes their day... give a beggar a coin..

I choose to not give money, instead I offer food or drink. Most will gladly accept the offer. If they do not want what is offered then they are not that needy and probably a fraud. I am happy to see that more people like myself, have a heart for these people who are down on their luck. You never know when you may be the one who needs the help.
