Today was our youngest eighth grade graduation. It doesn't seem as big a thing now adays. It used to be that many children would not complete high school because they had to start working when young. My Grandfather started working when he was sixteen and went into the military at seventeen. At that time an eighth grade education was considered good. Now that most children complete high school it is not a big thing. Even our daughter had the attitude of "It's just eighth grade, not like it is anything important."
I felt that for her this was a great accomplishment. She has a learning disability and has a very hard time reading. She has been worked with be school counselors ever since she started first grade. When she went into middle school (Seventh Grade here) she was reading at a third grade level. She was put in special classes and had a couple of teachers that worked really hard with her. She did so well in seventh grade that she was put in regular classes and even though she pretty much got C's in all of her classes she passed and has brought her reading level up to grade level. She worked hard and accomplished a lot. It was a mile stone to celebrate for her.

Oh, how wonderful that she is having that much success. I know a young lady that graduated near Chicago (from eighth grade) and she said it was a big deal there because the drop out rate is so high. Your daughter must have worked very hard, as well as the teachers, because no matter how hard a teacher teaches, the student has to want to learn.
