The perfect end to a perfect week...... NOT!.

For a year I had been looking forward to my holiday, a week in a place in UK called Blackpool, the only holiday we are having this year too. It was OK, but not quite the fantastic week I had been looking forward too, and we ended up coming home earlier than planned. I have a tree in my garden, it is my favourite tree,I love this tree. So imagine my horror upon returning home and discovering that while we had been away, a storm had come along and ripped this tree from its root and up ended it down the side of my house. Luckily there was no damage to the house but as for my tree, well there was nothing that could be done. So has anyone else ever had a really bad holiday that made them really glad when it ended? Has anyone ever returned from a holiday to find something happened while they were away?

Aww honey that is rubbish! I know how much you were looking forward to your holiday and it is bad enough that it wasn't what you were hoping for but to come home and find your tree uprooted is awful! I am so glad that it did no damage to the house that would have made things so unimaginably awful! I've never had anything like that happen I am glad to say and I hope that this kkind of incident is not catching as there is only 3 weeks til I go away! Good to have you back sweety! xxx

Sometimes going abroad works out not too much more expensive depending on where you go! I am looking in to booking a wheelchair whilst we are gone - something I refuse to do for the long term- to ensure I still get about with David and the kids a bit! xx

gemini rose sorry your holiday wasnt quite what you wanted. also sorry about your poor tree. can it be saved? I havent been on a holiday for so long I cant remember if it was bad good or inbetween. I remember once I went away years back and left the swamp cooler on in my moms house In tempe and when I got back the motor had burned out on it and I 'had to replace it before my parents returned from South Dakota.arggh. really expensive even back then.

No the tree was not able to be saved, too many people were quite happy about the fact it had been felled for me to take a stand. I may just be very sneaky and plant another when no ones looking!!

Oh dear, how awful for your. First your holiday falls short of being spectacular ~ then your favourite tree bites the dust. I would be so~so about the holiday...coming home is such a good feeling but to find my favourite tree in such a situation would make me very, very upset. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Hugs.

Oh Rose you were so looking forward to that holiday too...ive been away many times, but the reason that I always want to get home is simply because I get homesick!..now that sounds pretty sad lol,but its perfectly true...when im away I enjoy the first couple of days but then im ready for home, and I find myself counting the nights that I have to stay out of my own bed!!...I enjoy my own home and my own environment, the last couple of times that I have been away it has been with hubby and Mum...and I find it all too much to handle...but I must say f I go to my daughters then its slightly different...because I have her to natter to...and we are really on the same wavelength...Rose im sorry that the holiday didnt live up to your expectations..you had very poor weather I should imagine...and im sad that you came home to find that your tree had been damaged...

I know, I really was. But Blackpool is just not what it used to be, it is very run down in places and scruffy and although they are doing work on it in places it seems it has just been left too late.

Ive only been to Blackpool once Rose and that was to see the lights..in all honesty I didnt like it there then...all of the pubs and clubs had bouncers the size of bungalows at their doors...the lights were pretty, but that was years ago and it wasnt exactly what I would describe as being run down then.

well here in quebec we have saint john the baptist day which is a quebec but not all of canada holiday, we came home that night and there was no electricity in the entire building, i lost all my food in the freezer, all my meats and frozen foods. The landlord had to find an electrician at midnight to come and fix the problem which had to do with the wiring on the roof.

That is really bad, one of the reasons that I do not keep my freezer fully stocked.

Well that sucks. We have no big trees in our yard as they were all taken out by storms before we moved in. My in laws went on vacation and a storm hit there place and struck their garage. No one could reach them as they were on the road and had no cell phone. So just imagine their surprize when they got home to their garage a charred mess nothing could be saved. Lost a truck and a motercycle and 25 years worth of tolls collected. Plus it wrecked their computer and phone in the house. Thankfully it was a detatched garage and the house was okay.

That is really bad, must have been horrible for them coming home and finding that. But like you say at least the house was OK.

Most of my holidays are bad. I always make special plans for the perfect event but something always ruins it. something always happens and it makes me want to just give up on ever trying to celebrate them and enjoy them. I still do try but not as hard anymore. I always expect the worst. I live by Murpheys Law, because that is just the way it has always been for 37 years now. Whatever can happen, in my case, bad things, WILL!

fallen tree - it is very dangerous if a tree happens to fall upon a house or a car. it would be great if a tree was deeply rooted into the ground.
Hello dear gemini_rose. I am so sorry that your favorite tree was blown down by heavy storm, which is a big loss to you. But I am thinking whether you could replace the tree in the same place to make sure that it will grow more firmly. Have you ever tried to see how it works, please? I hope that this tree is still in good condition with luck. This year when we were having our winter holiday at home, we had heavy snow in the south of China. A lot of trees in my school were made to fall down by the ice and snow hanging on the tree causing great loss of the trees that we have on campus. Now many of the trees have broken their branches though they are now standing straight with the help of some ropes and tall bamboos to support them. I hope that they will grow as thick as they used to. Thank you so much for your discussion, my dear friend.

We have decided not to replace the tree, only because the neighbours commented on how light it was without the tree being there!

Sorry to hear you didn't have such a good time, I know you were looking forward to it. That is awful what happened to your tree, it's a shame it could not have been restored that would have been horrible coming back and seeing that. I am glad that there was no damgage done to your house. I have not been on a holiday in such a long time. But about 3 years ago now, I was pregnant at the time, we went on a school camp (I was the teacher), this camp was at Maroon Dam. It seemed like disaster after disaster there. One night there, we went on a camping trip with my class and one other adult (superviser at the centre there). Anyway it started raining really heavily, so we had to call the bus early to pick us up. While we were waiting, this boy started to get really low on sugar, he was diabetic, I was getting really worried. Luckily there was a ranger there he gave him a peanut butter sandwich. Then another sutdent started to have a panic attack and at the same time another student started having an asthma attack and she did not have a puffer, luckily we found another student there who had a puffer. When the bus did finally arrive, it had flooded quite a bit we had to walk the 30 students across this bridge, where it was knee high depth water in the dark. We hopped on the bus and we got bogged, so we had to wait for help to arrive. It was such a fun trip, not, but the kids will never forget this camping trip.

And that is why I do not like camping! It sounds like a nightmare and a whole lot worse than any of mine.

I am pretty much a homebody and so, most of my holidays and vacations are spent there, relaxing, reading and taking it easy. Though I haven't had any unfortunate occurrences, when it comes time to go back to work, I am more than happy to return.
