We have two local Greek restaurants in town and tonight, we feel like having Greek food for dinner, so we went to Olympia. This particular restaurant has been in town for more than 30 years. We started with Greek medley appetizer of stuffed cabbage, stuffed olive leaves and stuffed pepper. The appetizer was filling enough. Then came my Broiled Single Lamb Chop with rice and potato while my husband and our friend each had Baked Lamb with rice and potato. The beer made the meal even more delicious! How about you, do you eat Greek food? What is your favorite?

Greek food: you either love it or don't care too much for it. But, from what I've had of it, it was good. The stuffed grape leaves, I don't remember what that tasted like as I was just a child then. It must have been odd. Now, the Gyros...YUMMY! There's a restraunt here in town that serves the best Gyros. I love the way the lamb meat tastest. It's so delightfully seasoned and the cream sauce is such a compliment. The salads, I could do without. I'm not a fan of goat cheese, especially in huge chunks like they have it. But, no meal is complete without the Baklava! Oooohhhh...my mouth is dripping just thinking of it. I love the way how each layer of pastry seems to be bursting with the sweet honey and the salted nuts. Luckily for me, they serve it in such tiny triangles or I'd get sick from eating too much. Anything else that Greek foods offers, I'm lost because I'm a victim of not liking changes...I won't try anything new if I can help it.

Oh, thank you for picking my response. Actually, I was looking through some cook books of mine and came across something with stuffed grape leaves. Perhaps when I'm adventurous, I'll try it...then again, I don't want to hear my children say "Yuck! Can we have pizza?"

I like Greek food. Probably my favorite Greek food is Gyros. I also really like Saganoki. I have no idea if I spelled that correctly.

I like gyros, Greek salad and flaming cheese. I can't remember if there is a special name for the flaming cheese dish, but I've seen it made in several Greek restaurants. It's fun to watch.

Flaming cheese...sounds interesting! I may have to visit Olympia again (not too soon though!) and try these dishes that you all mentioned. Thanks for sharing!

I love greek food. There is a Greek restaurant in our city that my husband and I visit on special occasions. (It is expensive.) My favourites are spanakopita, tiropita, and pork souvlaki.

Wow, you just added 2 more new Greek dishes into my vocabulary. Now I have too many choices to choose from on my next visit. Thanks for sharing and enjoy!

Greek and Lebanese food is the best. I am Lebanese, and I was raised on it. My favorite are cabbage rolls and chicken shawarma. They are both so good and relatively healthy.

Thanks for sharing your experience and love for food. Is Shawarma the same as that of Gyro?

The snack of choice with ouzo is Sardeles Pastes. These are the sardines that have been caught that morning, salted on the boat and served that night. To eat them the skin is removed and they are seasoned with oil, lemon or whatever your host prefers to season them with.

I love sardines! My grandmother used to slow cook sardines drizzled with a little olive oil and wrapped in spinach leaves. She also mixed some eggplants within the pot and when it's done, it was great! Thanks for sharing your Sardeles Pastes!

I'm not big on greek food. There is a greek restaurant we go to occasionally and I always order the ribs...lol. Some greek food is good, but I don't like feta which is in a lot of dishes so my options are more limited. I think my tastes are simple and boring.

That's okay if you're not big on Greek food. I am not so crazy about it either compared to other international cuisine but it's good to have once in awhile. Thanks for sharing.

I really wish there was a Greek or Lebanese restaurant around here! I love the Mediterranean fare because it's so fresh and tangy and well balanced. I love the stuffed cabbage and stuffed grape leaves and I love lamb. There is a pretty good gyro place nearby, so we will occasionally stop by and grab those. It sounds like you had a wonderful meal!

It was a wonderful meal, thanks. You know what, now I'm confused if we had stuffed grape leaves or stuffed olive leaves. Whatever it was, it was yum. Enjoy!

I ate at a Greek restaurant last month for the first time. I ordered pork souvlaki, an appetizer of rice and ground beef wrapped in grape leaves. For dessert I had a baklava cheesecake. The food was good. I noticed that lemon juice was used a lot in the foods. The next time I'll try lamb.
