Okay many years ago the wife and I bought a really nice set of Corning Wear dishes. Unbreakable under NORMAL conditions. Today we had to throw one saucer out as it had a huge chip missing. Evidently it somehow fell onto my pavement and got the chip. Hee hee hee! I know the company will not replace the piece as the way it broke is not considered normal use. No biggie, I just wanted to ask if you've ever broke something that has a lifetime gaurantee and had it replaced? I have done that with the original, yes ORIGNAL, Ginzu knife. I've had a couple for at least 25 years and only had to replace it once due to me driving over it about 20 years or so ago. Now the person whom dropped my saucer I just had to start this. HAHAHA! No I am not mad as we have 7 more saucers.

I am just wondering...how did you drive over a Ginzu knife??? LOL
I actually also broke a Corning plate not that long ago, I did not know they had a guarantee. I broke it putting it away in the closet, somehow. I think it is actually from the Corelle line, which is supposed to be even more "unbreakable". So much for that! They do not seem to make the pattern anymore, luckily we have enough that one less doesn't make much difference.

no, i never done that in the past actually grandpa... all my cutleries are the cheap ones and do not come with warranty... so when they break, that's it... i just have to throw them away and get new ones... good on you for being able to claim for your breakages... take care and have a nice day...

I bought my mom a set of thoses dishes, unbreakable....yea right. I managed to break a plate. It fell on the floor, crash tinkle tinkle. This discussion reminds me of something funny that happened. (A long long time ago, hehe) I was on a field trip with school. I was in Business classes so we went to a business expo. They had a booth with an "unbreakable" kids calculater. The guy was telling us about it. He told me to go ahead and drop it, "it won't break". Famous last words. That sucker broke in so many pieces, they went flying. I stood there Oooopppps. He stood there sort of embarrassed. Unbreakable till I get ahold of it.

I don't think I have ever owned anything that has a lifetime guarantee AGB but I think i can guess who might have dropped the saucer! lol I did break a very expensive iron once when it fell horizontally and at great speed on to a wall - not my fault the other half ducked! xxx

I know that this is going to sound stupid; after you just said that under normal circumstance they would not replace. But i just have to ask anyway. I would think that after all the years that you have had the set that the company would replace the dish. Did you email or call them to see if they would replace it or not?

No it was family and not intentional and I don't
miss one saucer. They seldom get used anyhow.

LOL. We buy crafsman tools and they have a lifetimje guarantee on them also. We have had to replace a drill and some other tools in the past because they were just worn out, I guess. the company does replace them every time. I am glad you aren't mad at the person who did it, LOL. I am also glad that you have seven more of them.

Hello Grandpa,
I had tried breaking one of my dad's memorable glass but it has no lifetime guarantee, it was just very precious for him since he got it when he won in a contest in his teens. It was a very neat orange glass. It was 5 glasses and now they got 4! I really feel sad that time..LOL

This triggered a memory. I got snowballed into buying a super dooper highchair par excellence with all sorts of additions on
it from a door to door salesman with a beatrice potter babys'dinner plate that was guaranteed to stay put as it had 'section cup things underneath it. okay I fix my son'
his cereal strained veggies and strained fruit, and turn my
back for a moment and wham. my little son had not read the
guarantee. whoosh went the unmoveable plate, and yuck went
'allthe strained food onto the floor. I phoned the number
on the guarantee and of course, guess what, the company had
folded. so there I was with the super dooper highchair, kiddie
table and etc and etc. the chairs legs wobbled and the extension
'that was to make the chair into a table with a small chair
did not even fit where it said it was supposed to. the guarantee'was worthless so could not replace it. so we bought'
a nice second hand high chair that looked like new for'
almost nothing from a neighbor and it was one of the high class ones also and the babys dinner plate was unmoveable and came with the chair.I will never forget the look on my husbands face
as the unmoveable plate sailed thru the air and landed on his feet so to speak. then he laughed and then I laughed and my son'thought this was fun so he was giggling too.

Anything labeled unbreakable, has been broken at my house.
I can't begin to recall the things that my kids have broken, some expensive some not.
I think if any company wishes to truly say their product is unbreakable they should hire my kids to test them, if they survive my kids, then they are truly indisructable.

I've never broken anything like that, but my son did. My youngest son, diagnosed with ADHD, and with special emphasis on the "H" (hyperactivity), managed to break an 'indestructible' Maglite flashlight the first time he ever touched it. He didn't just break the bulb, he broke the entire flashlight!
Scary kid! (He's a sweetheart today, though.)
Good post! Take care.

Well, in a way I have helped to have an item with a lifetime guarantee replaced.
My brother in law dropped his Zippo lighter into the lake a few years ago. The lighter was a gift that he took great pride in keeping with him as he had carried it for over 5 years. A real record for him. When he dropped it in the lake, he thought it was lost.
I decided to borrow a heavy duty magnet from work one weekend and managed to fish his lighter out of the water after about an hour or so. As you can imagine, it looked nothing like it had before. I took it home, dried it out and cleaned it up the best I could. Believe it or not, it still worked. Unfortunately, the hinge was damaged so it would leak lighter fluid. Not so good when carried in your pocket.
Since my dad always carried a Zippo, I knew of Zippo's repair/replacement policy and told my brother-in-law to send it in to get it repaired. I even found the information on where to send it. When he got it back, it looked much better and he's still carrying it today.

I have a Ginzu knife I've had maybe 35+ years! I think it's an original one. I got it at the Cleveland Home and Flower Show in maybe 1970 I'm thinking. They were doing a demonstration there and I got one. It still works just fine. I wonder if mine will ever need replacing?
I get stuff with lifetime warranties and I lose the paperwork, or don't get it out to send away to replace it because it seems like so much trouble to pack it up and mail it for replacement. I have probably lost some money over time not doing this.
