General Electric Washer and Dryer

Two weeks ago I bought a new washer and dryer. I've never owned a GE and was wondering who on myLot has owned this product and if you were satisfied. No sooner than I bought them, a friend was telling me that she has had horrible experiences with both. I sure thought both the washer and dryer would be reliable items since the company has been around for years and years. What's your opinion, please?

I have an electric GE clothes dryer. Have had it for a few years now and have not had one ounce of trouble with it so far. (knock on wood) I don't want to jinx it. hahaha

Good to hear that you haven't had any trouble with your washer or dryer. GE is a big company with a good reputation. Maybe my friend didn't know what she was talking about...lol Thanks for responding.

They were terrific, but then many of their parts started being made other places and don't last/work as well. A friend of our family sells washers and dryers, he stopped carrying them. Too many maintenance calls.

Thanks for the information. I won't be using this washer and dryer as much as I did the others since our kids don't live at home any longer. Thanks for responding.

I believe that we have a washer that is maybe my age. And I'm 20. It's still going strong though. The only thing we've had to change on it was the dasher on it. I believe it still has several more years on it to go. That's wall the problems we've had with it too!

My last washer and dryer lasted a few years with 5 of us in the house which meant I washed all the time. Thanks for responding.

Sorry carolbee, but can't help you much here being I've always gravitated toward Whirlpool brand appliances. They just seem to stick out in the crowd for me.

My past appliances have been Westinghouse and they were good but decided to make a change. Thanks for responding.

No matter what you buy, there will be people that love it, and people that have had problems with it and hate it. You never know. You just have to look at what the majority of people think.

You are exactly right. I've never owned a GE washer or dryer so this is a new experience. Hopefully both will operate for a long period of time without any problems. Thanks for responding.

I will never again buy GE! I bought it for the same reason as you (past reputation, long time in business) I was told by the repairman, that he has to be called on a lot of GEs! My washer was totaled after only 4 years! It was outrageous. I've switched to mostly Whirlpool and LG (which by the way is an EXCELLENT brand at a good price!)

Thanks so much for your feedback. It's important to me to know everyone's opinion. I've owned Westinghouse appliances in the past and they were good but this was a good deal and thought their reputation was worth buying GE products. Just hope I am not sorry. Thanks for responding.

I bought a new GE washer many years ago and it lasted all of 18 months before the transmission wore out. I also bought a GE microwave that lasted about that long also. I think their quality is not as good as other companies, even though they've been around a while. It might be better now, though, because I gave up on GE products and haven't bought any for a long time.

Ouch! Am sorry you had problems with GE products. I would think they stand behind their products. It's good to know that some products are not perfect. I will pay attention to the new products we recently bought. Thanks for responding.

The very first washer and dryer that I owned, was a GE. They never lasted me very long, I hate to say. I have the same problem with their dishwasher also. They used to be very reliable but not in this day and age. I now own a whirlpool washer and dryer. It has lasted me alot longer than the GE ever did. I wish you the best of luck with yours though.

I really appreciate your feedback. Actually my daughter and her husband saw both on sale and wanted me to buy them so I did. Will see what happens over the years. Thanks for responding.

Sorry...no help here. I have only ever bought Maytag and Sears. And both have lasted long past what I thought they would. But I wish you the best of luck with them.

For many years I bought Sears/Kenmore and was happy. With just 2 of us at home, I am hoping these appliances will last a long time. Thanks for responding.

no company can make a product that is 100% defect free. i work for an oven company and sometimes things just go wrong, i'm sure your friend just had a bad unit, it happens! one of the best things about GE is that you can ALWAYS find a servicer, they are one of the best about training and getting a same day servicer is pretty easy!

I am sure that you can find someone that has had bad experiences with every brand on the market. I myself would not hesitate to choose G.E as through the years and several different G.E products, I view them as being quite reliable.

I think you could ask a member in the GE company coming your home to tell you how to use it.maybe it is the simple and safe way!

The delivery people left pamphlets so I can read how to operate the appliances. Thanks for responding.
