When I had 2 kids and a husband and worked full time and all I did coupons ALOT. I relied on them emensely solely for the fact to make ends meet. My income was limited and I had to stretch those dollar bills till old Washington Grinned like the Cheshire cat. I had the whole system layed out -t he box, the ads, etc. However, in the past years, not only did I stop doing the grocery shopping (husband did it and he refused to use coupons) but now it is only me and I am shopping again. The way I was doing it was for full throttle couponing! That is just not for just me - just one - anymore. I do buy things when on sale for my kids and still use coupons, but no more than I shop, I just don't need the coupons as I don't need the products anymore. However... I have gotten back in to the freebies and samples and in doing that am back into coupons - to cut expenses due to limited income as well as to try to help my kids (and their kids) cause things are tight for them too. So here's my question: I need suggestions on how to use the coupons for a single person - the file box way is not practical now. I have some but not a ton of coupons. I watch the places like Walgreens and CVS so as to use Manufaccture coupons along with their sale and that is quite profitable (lot of free stuff!) BUt I have to keep my coupons handy and to remember what I have So... share your suggestions, comments, tips and problem solvers for how you use coupons on a small scale. I can't even believe I am asking this question as I was a pro at couponing in the "big league" but now...just can't make it work right!

Hi Coffeebreak! Sounds like you have the save interest! I have a different system that adds to Bar Code Coupon savings. The store that I shop at accepts them both. It is not easy, where you zip through, because it takes planning. I make sure it is the right size, brand, date has not expired, and place the coupon on item as placed in my cart. See my comments on this site, it works for me! If you do not understand, please let me know? Good luck with your shopping & saving!

Couponing definately takes planning and attention. ALl the details have to be met. But once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. I was like that years ago when I wah shopping for 4 while working full time.. Now, since I dont' buy as much, just for me, I strive for the coupon items even more to save even more money. Thing is, no sense buying something I hvae no use for and paying for it! If I get it free or for pennies, I'll get it and findsomeone that can use it.

I use two coupon pouches now and many years ago used a coupon box that fit in the cart where a child sits. Its been a huge change to shopping for myself most of the time. Right now, am shopping once a week and buying sale items and feel lucky, as this store doubles coupons. I do get a few free items each week and if I can't use them, then they go to Food Share, which needs items. I clip out all $1.00 on 1 food coupons, as they usually mean free food sometime that month. They are stored in a shoe box.
