I was just reading at Mens Health online that Pork Lo Mein (at some restaurants) has almost 2000 calories and 167 grams of fat. Here's the link if you want to check it out for yourself. I was shocked. As many know, I'm the biggest fan of Chinese food. http://www.menshealth.com/eatthis/20-Worst-Foods/8_Worst_Chinese_Entree.php Right now, I'm looking for low fat and low carb versions of Chinese recipes online. If you find links to any recipes for healthier Chinese dishes, please let me know. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as healthy Chinese, but this is totally ridiculous! Did you know there was that much fat and calories in a single serving of Chinese food?

Yeah, it's a shocker for all of us Chinese food lovers. I love my General Taos. That food rocks, in a big way. But, it's deep fried, so I never have it. Just trying to spread the news about the high cal foods. Maybe this tip will help others. I'm sure some restaurants make a healthier version of the dish. Maybe getting rid of the pork and extra sauce would do the trick.

Well, the stir fries and steamed stuff are healthy but Chinese cuisine is more about that. The deep fried stuff and hawker food is high in fat, salt and calorie. You should check out recipes with innards, gizzards and quail eggs plus brain if you want to talk calorie count. This is the main reason why hubby and I don't eat Chinese takeout here - we don't know how the restaurants cook it and neither do we know what's inside. Stick to stir fry with low oil/salt/fat and steam stuff, and you'll be fine.

The Lo Mein dishes are always the worst dishes for Chinese food. I always try to get the dishes that are mostly full of vegetables like broccoli beef, kung pao chicken, or chop suey. But, all of them are high in sodium if you go to a Chinese fast food shop, so I only limit them to special days or occasions. If you go to a more upscale restaurant, the food is actually a lot healthier as long as they keep the soy sauce out. You can probably make many recipes at home in a healthy way if you steam all the veggies and leave out the salt.

Yes, I know there so much calories. So when I eat at chinese restaurant I just ordered the dried ones. Fried squid, fish and no sauce vegetables and meat. I can taste it.
